Anna Chapman Obituary

Jacksonville - Anna L. Chapman, 93 of Jacksonville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday July 5, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 23, 1932 in Athens County, a daughter of the late Eldon and Louise Jewell Daugherty. Anna had such a big heart and loved everyone. She collected dolls and especially loved angels. She was a former JT High School cheerleader, a lifetime member of the DAV and a member of the Murray City American Legion Post #420 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to dance and would do the Jig with her sister and was very good at line dancing and clogging. She enjoyed watching the birds off her back deck while sitting outside. Anna worked for Hickory Creek as an activities director for several years, and at Ambassador Laundry in Athens, from where she retired.

She is survived by her husband Jay Chapman; a sister Dee Cook; a son Bill (Goldie) Herbst; daughter-in-law Tammy Wemmer; stepson Butch (Royelle) Chapman; stepdaughters Debi (Jerry) Kovach and Teri Rainey; grandson Troy (James) Herbst; and several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her favorite furry feline, her baby Wonder. Anna had several special friends, as she loved everyone.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Rick Wemmer and daughter Lyn Wemmer; sisters Lou Campbell and Eileen Williams; and a lifelong friend Rose.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday July 10, 2025, at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville, with Butch Chapman officiating. Interment will be in the Hanover Cemetery, Nashport, OH. A visitation will take place on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Contributions can be made to Ohio Health Hospice, 444 West Union St., Athens, OH 45701.
