GIACALONE, Anna Igno, age 91, went to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ Our Savior in Heaven, on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2009, at home.
Anna was born September 16, 1918 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of John and Julia Igno. She attended Fairview School, Lowell Junior High School and graduated from Flint Northern High School, Class of 1936.
She taught speech and elocution classes in Flint before becoming a full-time homemaker and wonderful mother for her two children. Anna was a founding member of the Flint Institute of Art Founders Society, a theatre patron for the Flint Community Players and she was proud to be the author of a copyrighted short story novel at age 90.
Surviving are her husband, Mike Giacalone, Sr. of Flint; son, Dr. Michael (Marcia) Giacalone, Jr., of Grand Blanc; daughter, Maryanne (Carl) Mancour of Grand Blanc; granddaughter, Kristi Philpott of Flint,; grandson, Kevin (Debi) Johnson and great grandchildren Sarah and Joshua of Fenton; sister, Lena Chintyan of Burton; nieces, Barbara Jean (Dennis) David of Grand Blanc, Julianne (Jack) Marlette of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Mary Jane Mezaros of Grand Blanc; nephews, James Chintyan of Davison; John Chintyan of Burton; Stephen Mezaros of Los Angeles, California; dear friends Ed and Suzanne Jakeway of Grand Blanc and Dr. Antonia Novello of Orlando, Florida.
Visitation Sunday 4:00 until 8:00 pm and Monday 2:00 until 8:00 pm at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc. In State Tuesday 9:30 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint, until Funeral Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am. Rev. Fr. Frederick Taggert, O.S.A. celebrant. Burial Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Those who wish may contribute in Anna's loving memory to St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church. 'Dear Mother, whether we are near or far, you are always in our hearts.'
