Anna Lamperelli Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 17, 2017.
Norwich – Anna (Vendola) Lamperelli of Norwich passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2017 in her home at 85 Norman Road. She had just celebrated her 105th birthday.
Anna was born in the Bronx, NY on April 21, 1912 and would later move with her parents, Fortuna (Della Torre) and John Vendola, to Groton, CT. Anna graduated from the 8th grade in the Bronx and then began work in the textile factories of New York City. Upon her family's move to Groton she continued to work in the local textile industry as a factory worker including the Max Pollack Company in New London. While living in Groton Anna met Nicholas Lamperelli at her 16th birthday party and in 1938 they would marry and move to Norwich eventually building their own home at 16 Jones Court where they would have and raise their two children, Robert Lamperelli and Beverly (Lamperelli) Thompson. Anna and Nicholas would be married for 56 years until his tragic accidental death in 1993. Theirs was a marriage that grew in closeness over the years and Anna always referred to Nicholas as "my best friend". They were a couple who worked together in order to make a good life for their family and to provide their children with college educations.
Anna was a life-long Yankees fan and while not always understanding the complexities of the game she understood and loved the battles between the Yankees and the Red Sox, celebrating when the Yankees won and trying to understand when they did not. Anna was a great cook and took joy in feeding her family, workmen who came to the house, the barbers who worked with Nick as well as bringing her home made pizza to family gatherings. Her greatest joy, however, was in being with family and sharing both their celebrations and their tribulations. Anna never truly recovered from the death of Nicholas and, more recently, that of her daughter Beverly.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nicholas J. Lamperelli and her daughter, Beverly (Lamperelli) Thompson as well as her sisters; Mary (Vendola) Dellaporta, Christine (Vendola) Salerno and her brothers Frank Vendola, Louis Vendola and Joseph Vendola. She was also preceded in death by many brothers and sisters in law on both sides of the family.
Anna is survived by her son, Robert Lamperelli and his wife Barbara (DeCarolis) Lamperelli of Stonington, her granddaughter Stacey (Lamperelli) Crockett and her husband Cameron Crockett of Long Beach, CA, her brother in law Val Lamperelli and his wife Lucia (Cassano) Lamperelli of Montville. She is also survived by many caring and loving nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.
A short visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Church with burial following at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Dear Bob,Barb,Stacey and Cameron,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. While it is very hard to lose a mother/grandmother, we know that her passing afforded you a certain amount of relief as the past few years have been trying. Anna's life is something to be celebrated as well, along with the fact that you were blessed with her presence for so many years. Gary and I never had the pleasure of grandparents in our lives for very long, and since we have become grandparents we have come to realize what we have missed. Please know that if you need anything at all, we are here for you.
With Love,
Gary and Penny Baril

Bob...Thank you for the phone call...informing us of your mom's passing. Yes, we had plenty of good times...your family and mine. We shared many a dinner, fun at Rocky Neck, sleep overs at both homes and you, Mike and I worked at having some serious fun. Your mom and dad were a "legend"...never to be forgotten. Carol and I would like to extend our deepest condolences at this difficult time. God Bless you for your strength and vigilance during your mom's later years...you were always there for her. Fondly, Angelo and Carol Gesmundo
