Anna Peed Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
**Anna Leota "Anna Lee" Peed**, age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 18, 2025, in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Born on August 10, 1930, in Bonner Springs, Kansas, Anna was the daughter of Leonard J. and Mildred M. Peters. She grew up in Bonner Springs and graduated from Bonner Springs High School before attending Kansas State Printers College in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Anna began her career selling Watkins products but soon found her calling in the printing industry. After completing her education, she became a linotype operator and later adapted to the evolving world of computer-assisted offset printing. Her dedication and skill led her to work for several respected newspapers, including The Olathe News, the Topeka Capital-Journal, and ultimately The Kansas City Star, where she remained until her retirement.

Anna married James O. Hurley and together they raised four children while living in Bonner Springs and later Lawrence, Kansas. Later she married Danny D. Peed, expanding her family with five stepchildren. Anna and Dan made their home in Oak Grove, Missouri before retiring to a farm in Lyndon, Kansas. Following Dan's passing, Anna moved to Topeka for ten years before settling at Richmont Village in Bellevue to be closer to family as she faced the challenges of dementia. She later moved to Richmont Terrace Assisted Living and Memory Care where she lived until her passing.

Throughout her life, Anna was known for her joyful spirit and tireless energy. She had a servant's heart-always cleaning, cooking, helping others, and ensuring those around her were cared for. She loved being surrounded by family and especially delighted in the company of babies and toddlers.

A woman of many talents and boundless energy, Anna could hunt and fish with ease-cleaning game (even roadkill) and preparing meals that were nothing short of legendary. She canned vegetables, made preserves and wine, baked pies and cookies that filled homes with warmth, chopped wood, cleaned chimneys, and never sat still for long. If it was Anna's day off-you were going to be busy too.

Anna embraced life fully. She loved traveling-whether on cruises or spontaneous road trips-and cherished time spent with family and friends on these adventures. A voracious reader, she devoured so many books that libraries had to order more just to keep up with her appetite for stories. She marked each book she read so as not to repeat them-a testament to both her sharp mind and love of learning.

She also had a passion for auctions and garage sales and collected glassware and curios that adorned display racks throughout her home. Christmas was especially dear to her heart; every room had its own tree or decoration-and even more treasures waited in storage.

Anna's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She attended the Methodist Church as a child and remained active in various congregations over the years including Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence; All Faiths in Christ in Topeka; Bible Fellowship Church in Lyndon; Fellowship Bible Church in Topeka; and Thanksgiving Church in Bellevue.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents Leonard J. Peters and Mildred M. Peters; siblings Frankie J. Peters, Leonard W. "Woody" Peters, Mildred S. "Millie" Holyfield, James R. "Jim Bob" Peters; husbands James O. Hurley and Danny D. Peed; grandson Christopher Hibbard; mother-in-law J.
