It was always a treat to talk with Mel at Trinity. He was a man of peace and he radiated calmness. He will be missed.

I was not fortunate to be around Melvin alot, but he always impressed me as such a kind man, a gentleman; not to mention, reminding me of Montgomery Clift! When I saw Mel in his later years, he and Lin both inspired me to keep on keeping on.
With love from Melinda

Dearest Lin; Mel; and loved ones,

I am writing to let you know how much Mel is missed. I find great peace knowing that Mel is being greeted by the love of God;the peace of Jesus;
a hug from Ruth Bowmer Burleson . . .
( the BEST HUGGER EVER!),a smile from the adoring, gentle, wise, and loving Jim DeWitt Bowmer; a held
hand with polished nails from
the beautiful Daurice Bowmer;
a leap of excitement from the wonderous, lovely, amazing Marta Ziffer;
a
witty announcement about glorious newcomers from the magnificent Martha Bowmer;(of whom I
am sure is in charge of 'The Amazing Angelic Journal');
a strong embrace of courage, bravery, and tough love from the amazing Bobby Burleson; a running jump into your loving arms from a
little boy named, Charles Bowmer Schreiner, V.,'Baby Charlie', saying,
"Thank you and Lin for visiting me in the hospital in San Antonio when I was so sick . . . after so many months . . . You,
Lin, and Ruth kept coming to see me
(and I am finally am able
to thank you)
as I did not have as many people come as often as the three of
you came for so long of a time.
Hi, Mel. I am so glad we can be best friends, now. My grandparents have told me how wonderful you are. They said that you are and were the best husband, man, and friend . . . ever.
They
told me that you loved Lin with all of your heart (and it beat for her when
it was too tired to beat on its own)
for
52 years and more. . .and that she cared for you with every ounce of love in return.
My
family has had many great love stories and has told me about many love stories in books and on earth and in heaven . . .but your love and Lin's rank at the top of the list. I KNOW how
you will miss Lin and she will miss you but you can watch over her everyday, like I watch over
my family and Bobby watches Mickey . . .
and hope
that Lin and Mickey will let their lives
be filled with joy before they come
to heaven. Lin
must see all of the people and places she needs to see.
Her sister-in -law, Mickey,
and cousin, Mary Helen,
want to take her on a wonderful trip . . .maybe to see where Aunt Ziffer lived in Austria!"
Let us all bind together to help celebrate the life, talent, wonder, and love Mel showed to Lin and
she showed to him and
to all creatures of God. Let's make happiness for Lin
and give strength
to her to continue her life with the love and joy Mel
showed.
' Jim
and Bobby have told us
of your goodness and kindness.Mary Helen
said that Ruth is and was the kindest person, ever . . . but with
you, and the rest of the family .
. . . she just
thinks it's a very close race . . .too close
to call. She also said that you and
Lin
were and are the bravest of all of us . . . but how rare it is to have such qualities as bravery mixed with kindness, love and gentleness.
Mainly, though, our
family all agrees that you and Lin had the kindest marriage, ever
and were the true definition of the description of Love in Corinthian's. ' love is brave and kind . . .never jealous or envious, never
thoughtless or selfish or rude. . .'
Your
relationship with Lin is one the entire world wishes it had and the greatest example of the love. People

could save the world with your kind of love.
You left people and places better than you found them. THAT
is the greatest accomplishment of all. Thank you, Mel,
for showing us the way and may we follow your love and example of it, everyday. We will miss you but are so grateful that we had the privilege and honor of knowing you.
Now, May you enjoy your heavenly surroundings until we meet, again. We
will try to be better people as we follow your example and you look down
upon us.

We love you . . . until we meet again . . .
Your cousin, (and
ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY)
who love you from afar,

Mary Helen Yarbrough Bowmer Schreiner

Lin, Mel was a giant of a man. He was loved and
respected for being the outstanding Christian that
he was. He is now in a really, really neat place—His
eye sight and other medical problems are a thing of
the past. As one of our Pastors used to say in a
situation like this, “He has never been more alive
than he is right now”—We all know that is the case
with your beloved husband, Mel.
Being the godly women that you are, we just know
that you will be feeling his love as you go through
the grieving process. Please know that we have been
and will continue to pray for you and the rest of your family.
