Anne Core Michaels

Tallahassee - Anne Core Michaels passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2018. She was 95. Born in Teano, Italy, Anne met her future husband, Arthur D. Core, during the Second World War. They married in 1947, at which time Anne immigrated to the United States. She lived in Florida, Korea, Maryland, Germany, Virginia and Portugal during her husband's military service. After he retired from the Army in 1968, the family moved to Tallahassee. Anne was blessed to find love and companionship a second time with her husband Louis Michaels, formerly of Salinas, CA. A lifelong artist, Anne was a vibrant part of the local volunteer community and served in the Tallahassee Women's Club (twice Past President and Federation District Director), Lemoyne, Springtime Tallahassee, the Tallahassee Garden Club (Past President and Flower Judge) and was an avid supporter of the arts in Tallahassee. One of her most treasured distinctions was being given the honor of a gold medal by the Daughters of the American Revolution for spreading and supporting Americanism. She was also a Woman of the Year nominee.

In her journal, she wrote, "I love God more than life itself. My scope of living is to serve God and love human beings; to love my family and children." As a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King, Ruth Chapter, she strove to be "a woman of courage who has made a commitment to serve God her King." This exemplifies her life. Being seaside was among her most treasured experiences. Anne was a long-time member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent and St. Monica's Guild. She is survived by her husband Louis A. Michaels, two daughters, Lea Core Herrell, and Nina Core (Sam) Stone, of Tallahassee, and a son, David (Cynthia) Core of Arlington, VA, two step-daughters, Angie (Steve) Fusco and Rosy (Mike) McCormick of Salinas; grandchildren Kendra (Bill) Adams, Andrea (John) Boggs, Jonathan Watts, Ashleigh Stone, Nicole Stone, Lucy Core, Mimi Core and Tony (Veronica) Fusco; and her great-grandchildren Marina Adams, Emerson Adams, Ella Boggs, Arrington Boggs, Gio Fusco and Isa Fusco; two brothers, Bruno (Marina) d'Orta, Lino (Nia) d'Orta, a sister, Nieta d'Orta della Peruta, 10 nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her first husband Arthur D. Core, son-in-law William C. Herrell, Jr. and her great-grandson Logan Watts.

A Celebration of Life Eucharist will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 815 Piedmont Drive, Tallahassee, FL at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018, followed by an interment at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to The Episcopal Church of the Advent or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.

Rocky Bevis of Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee (850/385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the family with their arrangements.
