Anne Schorzman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2025.
"Sometimes, only one person is missing, and the whole world seems depopulated."

Anne Schorzman, a longtime Boise and lifetime Idaho resident, died unexpectedly (and way too soon) from a cardiac arrhythmia on June 26, 2025 at the Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, Washington. She, with her beloved partner Greg Farmer, had been enroute to a Canadian bicycling adventure. Always ready for a new excursion, Anne, a sister, aunt, companion and friend, was "vibrant, intelligent, cherished, and loved". We will miss her sparkle.

Anne was the fourth and youngest child of Madge Matthews and Arthur E. Schorzman, born July 16th, 1954, in Burley, Idaho. The Schorzman family lived in Burley during the school year and summers were spent living and working on the family farm in Sublett, Idaho. The farm was the perfect childhood playground which kindled Anne's love of the outdoors. Although working around the house and helping with chores was required, there was plenty of time for making mud pies, riding horses and make-believe adventures down at the springs.

After graduating from Burley High School (class of 1972), she attended Idaho State University, graduating in 1976. After graduation, Anne became interested in and increasingly focused on health and wellness. In 1987, she became a licensed massage therapist and in 1993 attained a master's degree in exercise physiology from Boise State University. Anne co-owned and operated a business focused on massage, exercise, and nutritional counseling. A breast cancer diagnosis, subsequent treatment and recovery, led her to close the business and focus on her own health and wellness. That focus continued long after her remission. Her reminders to "drink your water" and her faithful water bottle companion remained constants throughout the rest of her life.

Always youthful and vibrant, but ever aware of the toll that sedentary life can have on you as you age, Anne began a strength training for seniors' program at the Fort Boise Community Center in 1997. When Pickle Ball hit the exercise world, Anne was all in. She played often and taught anyone interested, including her great nephews, who love the sport.

Anne was a member of the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation and served as president of the Idaho Chapter from 2000-2003. During her three-year tenure as president, Anne implemented a successful teacher program for students to experience the Lewis & Clark Trail in Idaho and was appointed by Governor Dirk Kempthorne to the state of Idaho's Lewis & Clark Trail committee. This committee was responsible for planning activities for Idaho's commemoration of the Lewis & Clark bicentennial from 2004 to 2006. Anne represented the state at several National Lewis & Clark events and served on this committee until it disbanded in 2024.

Anne's love of history coalesced with her position at the Idaho State Historical Society where she worked as the Event Coordinator at the Idaho State Museum from 2008 until her retirement in 2016.

After retirement, there was rarely a day that you wouldn't find Anne out hiking or biking. In winter, she did both Nordic and downhill skiing. Anne's love of travel merged with her devotion to exercise as she challenged herself hiking on the Camino Trail in Spain and last year the Coastal Trail in England. A recent bike trip was riding the Empire State Trail in New York's Hudson Valley.

Anne was an avid reader and was a member of a book club where she cultivated lifelong friendships with women that she knew and loved for over 30 years. After she retired, she learned how to play bridge and played and taught bridge in two different bridge groups.

Anne had the ability to "enliven every moment and enrich the lives of those around her". With her intellect, sharp wit and keen sense of humor, she could turn the most mundane activity into a memorable event. It didn't matter if you were working on the "spud speck line" at a potato processing plant or hunting for a historic grave in the desert on a hot day, Anne could make it fun (or truth be told, make fun of it).

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Madge Schorzman; sister Kathy Poulton and her brother-in-law Mike Poulton. She is survived by her partner/companion of the last eight years, Greg Farmer; her brother John (Kate) Schorzman, her sister Carolyn (Craig) Wallin; her nieces Kaye (Chris) Poulton-Timm, Clare Wallin, Sarah (Eric) Nielson; her nephews Michael Poulton, Geoffrey (Jill) Wallin and Jake Schorzman; -- her adored great nephews and nieces: Reece (Ellie), Jayden and Clate Poulton; Alex and Henry Timm; and Westin Wallin - Taylor and Kolbi Nielsen.

Anne's family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider a donation in Anne's memory to any one of the following charities: The Lewis & Clark Trail Alliance (lewisandclark.org), The Susan Komen Cancer Foundation, Advocates for the West, or a charity of your choice.

Anne had an animated spirit and lived life to the fullest. Please join Anne's family in celebrating her well-lived life on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 3 p.m. at the Barber Park Event Center, 4049 South Eckert Road, Boise, Idaho.

Wendy and I only had the chance to share three visits with Larry´s old friend Greg Farmer and his remarkable partner, Ann - but from the very start, we were touched by Ann´s warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit. We were looking forward to many more years of laughter and shared memories. To Greg, and to Ann´s family and friends, we share in your sorrow and offer our deepest sympathy. We cry with you - but we are also deeply grateful for the time we had with such a vibrant and beautiful soul.

With Love,
Larry Stowell and Wendy Gelernter

Starting at her classes at Fort Boise in 2007, Anne became a big and very positive influence in my life, as my first strength and conditioning trainer/teacher. She helped me get into better shape, while having fun doing it!

Her loves of music and history, especially when she came back to "the Fort" post-pandemic, were a growing part of the fun, and I knew when we relocated from Boise in 2024 that I would miss Anne and our classes more than just about anything, and it was true.

She was a very special, remarkable person, who is dearly missed!
