Anne Sturm Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2024.
Anne died peacefully on August 3, 2024, after a 2-year long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Rick Sturm, her two sons Patrick and Daniel Sturm, her parents Ron and Joan Malanosky, her sister Lynn Acosta, her brother Evan Malanosky, and many caring friends made over the years.

Anne was born in Southern California. Her childhood years were spent camping, hiking, and racing sailboats. In 1986, while in living in San Diego, she met the love of her life and best friend, Rick. They were married in 1988 and had many adventures together. They loved to travel to the mountains to camp, hike, backpack, or rock climb, and to the sea to explore its beaches and look for treasures. After the boys were born, they were able to join Anne and Rick on their many adventures.

Anne graduated from San Diego State University. She started teaching elementary school right out of college and taught for 36 years. The last 21 years were at San Ramon Elementary in Novato. She had a passion for instilling a love of reading in her students, as well as a curiosity about the world around them. All her students were special to her, and their lives were enriched by her caring and empathetic nature. She particularly enjoyed working with her colleagues and getting to know the families of her many students. Anne was frequently recognized for her contributions to education. In 2016, Anne received the Golden Bell Award from the Marin County Office of Education as an exemplary educator.

Anne loved taking RV trips with Rick, gardening, hiking, and spending time with friends. Anytime she could be outside she was happy. A walk on a beach or a hike in the mountains fed her soul.

Mrs. Sturm was our son´s favorite teacher. She was intelligent, knowing each kid and what they needed. She alway went above and beyond. She took such a loving interest in our family, making her a part of our family. We are so blessed to have had so many great memories with her. She spoke so fondly of her husband and boys, please know she loved you three dearly. She was taken too sudden. We hope you know you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Much Love, The Ingels Family

I taught with Anne at Old Mill School in Mill Valley. She was an amazing educator and beloved by both students and staff. I can still hear her laugh. I lost touch with her over the years and am so sad to hear of her passing. My sincere condolences.

I worked with Anne at San Ramon School for 16 years, many of those as a teammate in the first grade pod. She was a great team player and a devoted teacher. She had many great qualities but I most appreciated her dedication to all the children, even the most challenging, and her sense of humor.

Anne was an amazing, kind, positive person. My heart aches for her family. We carpooled for years and she was as funny as she was nice. The world lost a bright light. We will miss seeing her so much and her family is in our thoughts.
