Anne Winterman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2012.
Anne Y. Winterman, 86, of Olathe, Kansas, left this world to join her Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2012, following an unexpected hospital stay. Anne was well prepared for her journey, and her children surrounded her during her final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 71st and Metcalf in Overland Park, Kansas. Anne will be entombed with her husband at Resurrection Cemetery at 83rd and Quivira in Lenexa, Kansas. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at McGilley & Hoge, 8024 Santa Fe Drive in Overland Park, Kansas, with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Anne was born on January 17, 1926, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Spiro and Ivanica (Perko) Yerkovich, who had recently immigrated to the United States from Croatia (then Yugoslavia). Anne graduated from Rock Springs High School and worked for the Rock Springs National Bank until starting her family. Anne fell in love with Richard (Dick) Winterman, originally from Norwood, Ohio (Cincinnati), the resident FBI Special Agent for that region of Wyoming. Anne and Dick were married on May 30, 1956, and moved from Rock Springs to Kansas City in 1958. They resided for over 40 years in Mission, Kansas, where they raised six children who loved them dearly. Anne was an incredibly faith-filled woman, and she and Dick were parishioners of Queen of the Holy Rosary for many years. Following Dick's death in January 2005, Anne moved to Santa Marta Senior Living Community in Olathe.

Anne is survived by the following children, spouses, and grandchildren: Paul and Pam Winterman (Natalie and Luke) of Leawood, Kansas; Mary Jean Winterman of Salt Lake City, Utah; Richard and Susan Winterman (Zachary and Savanna) of Overland Park, Kansas; Grace Anne and Scott Bailie (Emily, Michael and Christopher) of Lenexa, Kansas; Kurt Winterman of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Amy Jo and David Compton (Gabrielle, Joshua and Joseph) of Lenexa, Kansas. Anne's husband, Dick, and her brother, John Yerkovich, of Rock Springs, preceded her in death.

Anne's family would like to extend their appreciation to the residents and staff of Santa Marta, for the friendship shown Anne during her four years there. She truly loved living there and cherished the many friends she made. The family would also like to thank the staff at Overland Park Regional Hospital for the care given Anne the last week of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church or Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas.

Wintermans, between Natalie, Luke and myself, I think I was Anne's favorite! What a great life she had, and what a bullet she "dodged" by not having to grow up in Croatia 80+ years ago...She was truly blessed. Good husband, good kids, wonderful vacations. Look at that smile! Hope all gets back to normal very soon....Our sympathies for the passing of Paul's Mom.
