Anthony Di Loreto Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 15 to Feb. 19, 2011.
Anthony J. Di Loreto

Anthony J. Di Loreto, aka Tony & AJ, was called to rest on, February 6, 2011 at the age of 65. Beloved son of Mary Jane and (late) Loreto Di Loreto, loving brother of Perry and his wife Patty, Thomas and his wife Susan, sister Loretta, brothers David, Greg and his wife Terri. He is also survived by his nephews, Michael, Daniel and his wife Annie, Ronald, Dominic, Matthew, Nicholas, his nieces Teresa and her husband Randall, Andrea, Christina, Cassandra, Tiffany, Juliana. Tony was born in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1945 while his Father was serving in the United States Army Air Corps. He Graduated from Warren G. Harding High School located in Warren, Ohio. After graduating High School, he was drafted into the Armed Forces of the United States - US Army. As a soldier, he was attached to the 4th Infantry Division and deployed to Viet Nam with his Combat Unit where he honorably served "In Country-Combat". AJ was proud to be an American and Veteran of the U.S. Army. He always said how vitally important it was that the USA be the World Leader having the Strongest Military Forces. Tony returned home from his services and was honorably discharged in 1971. Later, The Veterans Administration classified him as a 100% Service Related Disabled Veteran for injuries and illnesses he sustained while serving his country in Viet Nam.

Upon return to civilian life, Tony picked up where he left, rejoined his family, embraced life and pursued a career as a Realtor and Restaurateur. Tony went on to partner with his family in Loreto's Restaurant, Danville, CA, Viaggio's Restaurant in Reno, Nevada and spent several years as the GM of Plumas Pines Country Club and golf course. Tony most recently ventured, with his brothers in their Construction Company known as US Matrix Construction., Inc.

He had a love for golf (member of PGA & USGA), fine food, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and other great musicians. Most of all his heart went out and belonged to his dear and beloved family with whom he had shared a wonderful lifetime and countless memories. We are thankful for all that AJ did for us and proud of the service he gave to the United States of America especially at a time in our Nation's history when it was mocked and disrespected by many. As a nation's people, all of our lives are the beneficiaries of the sacrifices all veterans commit to and like Tony endure.

Anthony was a firm believer in God Almighty and was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church. We shall miss Anthony forever but always remember him as wonderful son, brother, uncle, friend and soldier. A very personable man who always took a genuine interest in all, anxious to have fun and help as he was able. Tony was sure to entertain, make you laugh with his company, conversations and jokes. Godspeed AJ?we love you and bid you farewell and commend you to the comfort and everlasting peace of God Almighty. And?say Hi to Dad for us all.

Friends, we welcome you to attend a Memorial Mass on February 21st, 2011 at 10:00 am - at Christ the King Catholic Church, 199 Brandon Rd., Pleasant Hill.

A light reception will follow the services in the Hall at CTK

Tony, we cannot let you go this soon. I loved you and just heard about your death. You were so great to me in the early 80/s and sponsored my membership at Diablo CC along with Sal Flavetta from Bank of America. I remember the great dinners and parties we had at Loreto's Restaurant in Danville, CA. I will never forget your friendship and the great times. The last time I saw Tony was at the new restaurant and/or golf club in Portola Valley many years ago. I remember shopping at Claude's in Walnut Creek for many years too as you referred him to me and the barbershop in the back. Cannot remember all of the names now as I am getting older and now live in Oro Valley, AZ.

I was lucky enough to be Tony's brother-in-law for a few years. One of my best memories is Tony getting out of bed in the middle of the night to help my friend and I trudge through the Plumas Pines snow to pull my truck out of a snow bank after a long night in Reno. He somehow always knew what being a young guy looking for fun was like and that once and a while you just needed a little help getting things fixed. Life seems to pass way to fast.

Tony was a wonderful friend to me, he always knew how to bring a smile to my face. He will remain in my heart and in my prayers.

I worked for Tony in Portola and we did not get off on the right foot at all. But in no time we fixed that and he quickly became one of my favorite people. He even gave me the keys to his beloved new Caddy one night and had me fill it up with gas! We lost touch over the years but I thought of him often. God bless.

Dear Mary Jane and Family,
There are some people that enter into our lives that embrace our hearts with their love for their family and friends. And the sound of their laughter will always remain with us.
Here's to you, A.J. for showing so many of us the "great times" together at "Patty's" (after hours), the abalone feeds with the "Animal Farm". So many things too numerous to list.
Thank you, my friend, for finding a special place in my heart many years ago and letting me be close to your family.
My sincerest sympathy to you all.
Fondly,
Barbara Marie

Dear DiLoreto Family,
I had the honor of calling Tony my friend for 39 years. He was always there when I needed a shoulder to lean on and gave hugs freely.
Though we lost touch he was not forgotten. Many times, Barbara Marie and I would reminisce about the days at his Aunt Patty's resturant.
I will remember his great smile, kind manner and the great love of everyone around him and of life.
Goodbye Tony,

Dear DiLoreto Family,
I was so saddened when I saw Tony's picture in the paper, obit, so young. I knew Tony for years before I came to work at Loreto's. He was a VIP at Maximillians Resturant in Walnut Creek where I then worked and we loved it when he came in the door...I loved the way he called me Peg, and Peggy Baby...such a charmer, gentleman and sooo fun. Talk about a GQ dresser, impeccable, hair always in place and everyone loved him. A great story teller also, he would get a crowd at the bar laughing...Max always chatted with him and Tony was the life of the party...he also used to bring me frozen pasta and would tell me how to grab a handful and drop in the water...he was a very giving person. Not to forget handsome...he was darling. With an infectious laugh, a beautiful smile...he was very proud of his family and heritage.
When I worked at Loreto's you could see how the customers loved him coming over to their table...and he always helped us by taking their drink order when we were slammed.
I wanted and intended to go to his service this morning, but have been battling some health issues myself....and today I just couldn't make it out....but woke up thinking of him and all of you...Mary Jane, my heart is with you, I lost my oldest brother last year and I see the pain in my fathers eyes and my own sorrow so I know your pain....
Tony was and will always be a bright light...I cant go into Ciones without remembering all my good memories working there at Loreto's and all the grandkids that are now adults...
take care and take it one day at a time...May God Bless you all...Peggy McKee

I was so sad to read of Tony's passing. My deepest sympathy goes to Mary and her whole family. I met Tony many years ago through my Dad, Jim Doten, who passed Jan. 3rd 2011. I have many warm and fond memories of Tony, Mary and Loreto at Loreto's in Danville. We had many good times and lots of laughter. My thoughts are with you.

Tony Knew... how to laugh which he did alot, how to have fun, how to celebrate, how to reminisce, how to tell stories in such a captivating way, how to be carefree, how to throw a party, how to live life to the fullest, how to cherish frindships and family, how to love passionately, and how to be real. I adored Tony as he was always so wonderful to me and all of those that knew him and he was so much fun to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in your time of grief and may you quickly find peace and solace in the knowing of how many lives he touched in such a loving and memorable way. He will always live on in your hearts and now he can keep Loret laughing.
