Anthony Longo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 29 to Jan. 31, 2024.
Keyport, NJ - Anthony "Tony" Longo, 59 of Keyport, N.J. passed away on Sunday January 21st, 2024, at JFK Memorial Hospital in Edison, NJ following a sudden and unexpected brain injury. Tony was predeceased by wife Mary Jane Longo, father, Salvatore Longo, and mother, Christine Longo. He is survived by his son Giovanni Longo, his brother Steven Longo, Giovanni's mother Rebecca Bullock Longo, and many aunts. uncles and cousins. He will be remembered for his eclectic sense of adventure, and his Jersey shore Italian culinary skills that matched those of his legendary aunt Mary Francia, Red Bank's first lady of Italian takeout. Tony graduated from Long Branch High School class of 1983. Tony loved old school New Jersey rock & roll music as inspired by his father Salvatore Longo, who was the piano tuner for Bruce Springsteen's bandmates. And just like "The Boss" Tony was a true survivor, sprung from cages on Highway 9 and truly "Born To Run" to his very last breath. May he now rest in peace. At the request of family there will be no immediate funeral services, but we invite family and friends to join this August for a Celebration of Life and Ash Ceremony at the Herr Family burial plot, Fairview Cemetery in Middletown. Details to come.

Have a great of Tony.
I am Luca Longo, and I was at Aunt Mary's house in 1976 with Grandpa Nicola, Aunt Mary's brother.
I am close to you and with great sorrow I learn this sad news because we are of the same blood.
I have wonderful memories of your hospitality and happy times spent with Tony and Steven.
Steven, I would love to get in touch with you, but I cannot get a hold of you.

When we were kids Tony and I worked on a go-kart that my older brother gave me. We had some fun running that around Elberon.

I was at an AC/DC concert with Tony at the Continental Airlines arena (who remembers that?). During the concert while the music was extremely loud, I look at Tony who looks like he's trying to tell me something but I can't hear a word he's saying. This goes on for 10 minutes or so and at that point I said forget it - we'll catch up outside. So after the show (2nd AC/DC show that weekend which was St. Patrick's Day) I asked him what the heck we're you trying to say to me. He just answered nothing, that he was just moving his lips/mouth, not making a sound, and making something funny out of a loud/fun night. We had many laughs together over the years and I shared Tony's love of music and good stereo equipment which we debated many times with Bose usually the mutual choice. A big musical taste between us was the blues. We shared many artists and songs over the years. I'll always remember Tony loving good music, being an excellent chef, and a super proud father. He talked of Giovanni every time we saw each other. You could see it in his eyes how proud he was of Gio. We'll miss you Tony, wish we hung out more and grabbed a few more shows. Here's to Tony, the music-loving chef, the proud father, and the friend who could make a silent conversation rock! May you rest in peace. Don B

p.s. We'll keep on rocking in your memory, one song, one bite, and one shared story at a time.

Remember, life is short, so crank up the tunes, savor the flavors, and cherish the good times - just like Tony would have wanted.
