Anthony Morici Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 11 to Mar. 26, 2023.
Anthony Morici, known to many as Tony, passed away at home on February 25th surrounded by his family. He was born in San Jose, CA in 1942 to Rosalie Terese Morici and Anthony Charles Morici. Tony was a life-long resident of San Jose, and attended St. Leo The Great School, Bellarmine College Preparatory, and Santa Clara University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Commerce. He often expressed gratitude for his Jesuit education and referred to his years at Bellarmine as the foundation for the rest of his life. At Bellarmine, Tony played basketball and was starting quarterback for two historic seasons. This cemented his passion for sports both as a competitor and as a fan. He was an ongoing member of the Silicon Valley Sports Hall of Fame and instrumental in bringing the first U.S. and World Figure Skating Championships to San Jose. Tony also attended the Loyola of Chicago Rome Center. This experience further strengthened his love of Italy and the Italian culture, which he passed on to his extended family and friends with his legendary Sunday dinners. This study abroad adventure also enhanced his love for travel. He and his wife Rebecca visited over 60 countries, learning about their cultures and history. Tony had a passion for the outdoors, and a lifelong love of Sun Valley, ID. He shared this love with his children and grandchildren, spending many winters skiing and summers fly-fishing and exploring Idaho's Wood River Valley. His career as a real estate developer, supported by his administrator Marcy and his extended team of business partners, has left a legacy on San Jose and the surrounding Bay Area. He was known by many extended family members and friends as Uncle Tony or Papa Tony, a testament to his fatherly care and demeanor. A man of character, wisdom, humility, and grace, with a profound sense of duty, Tony Morici will be greatly missed. He will live on in our hearts and actions as we emulate his approach to life and the love and care he showed friends and family. Tony is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rebecca, his sister Marianne, and three children: Shannon (Stephen), Antonio (Caroline) and Alexia (Jamie). In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren: Gabriella, Alexander, Sebastian, Nicolo, Charlie and Molly. He is preceded in death by his sister Carol and his son David. In remembrance of Tony Morici, donations may be made in his name to the Bellarmine College Preparatory Fund through www.bcp.org/give or to the Santa Clara University Global Engagement and Study Abroad Fund through www.scu.edu/giving. Memorial services will be held on April 1st at 11:00 a.m., at Mission Santa Clara de Asis (500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053).

Tony Morici was one of the TOP 5 BEST men I've ever met. He was kind, caring, humble, patient, fun, loving, interested and interesting. He adored his wife, Rebecca, and together they were legends of hospitality, generosity, and graciousness and unforgettable memories. They clearly passed those qualities to their 4 children who will ensure that those gifts (Tony) live on and on. They were "besties" with my parents and a great group of friends, and their children were dear friends of mine. It was never ending fun and food. But what I will always remember most, was when my father died at a young 49 in 1985, Tony and "Becky" wrapped their arms around my family and never let us out of their sight. Then when my Mom discovered she had a few weeks to live 10 years ago, Becky singlehandedly filled those 21 days with fun, food, laughter and love to the very last moment, just as my mother would have wanted.
Those are the gifts that money cannot buy and that I will NEVER forget <3

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Morici family during this difficult time. We are forever grateful for the memories that we shared, and the generosity that Tony and Becky had. So many memories. Dinners at your house, Sun Valley where poor Tony had to drive up with us in our little Honda Civic. Our rehearsal, dinner, and baby shower that the Morici family was so generous to host for us. Thanks for the memories and may Gods light shine above you all at this time.

Love, Steve and Kim Micheff

Losing Tony Morici will not sink in easily. This is how much of an impact he has had on ordinary people like me. His quiet demeanor should be an inspiring example to us all. I'm praying for Rebecca's comfort and for the rest of their family.

Tony was a second father to me growing up as a high school "bestie" of Shanon. He, my parents and the Simoni“s spent hilarious times together at the beach and at each others homes always surrounded by plenty of food and wine. The meals always took center stage, but it was the company that made these times so etched in my memory. Tony and Becky were the quintessential hosts who made everyone feel as welcome as family. Those time will be forever missed.

Tony was one of those people that you admired even in our teenage years . He was a remarkable athlete , a leader , he possessed a quiet strength . I was honored in those transformative Bellarmine years to have him as a friend.
