Anthony Nasharr Obituary

Published by Doings-Weekly, The from Apr. 24 to Apr. 30, 2014.
Nasharr Jr., Anthony J. Age 82, a 55 year resident of Oak Brook died of a heart attack on January 19, 2014, at Park Place, Elmhurst, where he was receiving physical rehabilitation for a fractured hip. Beloved husband of 56 years to Barbara (Krueger) Nasharr, and proud father of Anthony III (Maria) Nasharr of Hinsdale, Kirsten (Dave) Arnason of Hinsdale, Gretchen (Michael) Regole of Eagle River, WI, Heidi and Karin Nasharr of Oak Brook. Blessed with 12 grandchildren now ages 11 - 33 years old, they have been his "Hobby" since retiring some 25 years ago from his family importing company "Nasharr Freres". From changing diapers when they were young to cheering them on at Little League, soccer, hockey, lacrosse and football games, then high school and college games, he was there as often as possible. Now proud great-grandfather of 3 young ones. Known as "Papou" to his grandchildren and all their friends, and many more adult friends joined in by calling him this endearing nickname. Another nickname as "Frogman" for his calling and referring to his children and grandchildren as "Frogs". Also cherishing his dog, he named "Froggy". Many other friends and strangers knew him as "The Hanky Man". So proud of his family's business of importing handkerchiefs since the 1930's he was forever spreading happiness when giving out a hanky to someone he just met at churches, hospitals, restaurants, on vacations, and just about anywhere else he might travel. He loved to put a smile on someone's face!! For our family and friends of many years, he continued to add to their vast collection of hankies in cards he sent out for every holiday (Valentines, St Patrick's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Birthdays). Tony and Barbara traveled all over the world, Tony giving out hankies wherever they went. In later years they loved cruising! On cruises Tony would join in on art classes, his other hobby he took up several years ago at the Oak Brook Park District. Tony was a kind and gentle man with a huge heart, not just for his immediate family, but for nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and his friends children!! He will always be remembered and missed!! Tony's wake was at Adolph's in Burr Ridge on Friday, January 24th and a Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 25th at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills with Fr. Donald Kocker (his dear friend of 50 years) afflciating. The service was followed by a celebration of his life luncheon in Hinsdale with over 150 family and friends attending. Many stepping up to the "mike" to tell their "Big Tony" (another nickname) stories ranging from his high school days at Fenwick to his latest holiday antics. Interment in Bronswood Cemetary. Tony was proud to have served in the Army and many gifts were received in Tony's memory to his favorite charity, Wounded Heroes Foundation (501)(c)(3) 161 North Clark Street, Suite 4200, Chicago, IL, 60601 www.woundedheroesfund.net.
