Anthony Nicassio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 9 to May 11, 2017.
Dr. Anthony "Tony" Nicassio, 69, of Plum Borough, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 6, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Cinefra) Nicassio, and his children, Anthony (Christy) Nicassio, of Gibsonia, Mark (Chrissy) Nicassio, of Monroeville, and daughter Christina Nicassio, of Plum. He is also survived by two grandsons, Tony and Joey, of Gibsonia, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luigi and Maria (Pavia) Nicassio, and brothers Dominic, Ralph and Mario Nicassio. Dr. Nicassio grew up in Penn Hills and returned to the area after graduating from Hahnemann School of Medicine in 1976, starting his own practice. He was a dedicated physician with the Greater Pittsburgh Medical Associates, UPMC, with offices in Penn Hills and Bloomfield. He touched the lives of so many of his patients, and it was not uncommon for them to stop a family member to tell them as much. They would always share a story of how beloved he was and how appreciative they were of his hard work and dedication in caring for their families. His passion was his love for family, friends, good food, wine, travel and relaxing with family at the beach or sitting on his patio on a warm sunny day.
Visitation was private for the family. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Oakmont. Arrangements were by BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., Oakmont.
Donations may be made in his name to the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232.

Here 2 years later, I still haven't gotten a doctor as thorough, as genuine, as tough as Dr.Nicassio. The day he passed his patients and PRACTICE was injured. That day will never be forgotten. Still saddened, still in disbelief, still miss him!

My deepest sympathy to the Nicassio family. Dr. Nicassio was my doctor for about 30 years. He was always kind, caring, and comforting. He was very patient and was never in a hurry. He would ask about my family and we enjoyed talking about Pittsburgh sports. He called me at my home to see how I was feeling. I never knew such a dedicated doctor. He will be sadly missed.
God Bless you Dr. Nicassio and rest in peace.

I was so fortunate to have Dr. Nicassio as my primary care physician for 35 years. He was truly a great doctor and a kind man. As a physician, Dr. Nicassio was so thorough, dedicated, and often so serious. My mom and I would always try to say something to make him smile or laugh, and we succeeded.

He was truly what everyone would want in a family doctor.

We had visited Italy around the same time and I remember how Dr. Nicassio's face lit up when he talked about his family trip.

I will miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and with his staff, and I pray for all.

I first met Dr Nicassio at st Francis where I worked starting my nursing career in 1986. I was very impressed on how compassionate he was with the mental health patients we shared there. This is why I chose him as my physician. He had been my PCP for over 25 yrs, I always felt he took time with me, attentively listened. I felt he cared about me as his patient and a person and even as a nurse working a long side him. He will be missed. I will continue to pray for his family . I pray that God now is caring for this man who during his life cared so much for others. God bless, Lisa Snyder

Mrs. Nicassio: I simply want to mention instances where Tony demonstrated caring, patience and perseverance. Tony and I were in training at St Francis in the late 1970's. He was finishing his residency and I was just starting. On a number of occasions he gave me "pep" talks that I still remember.
There was a patient in ICU with a pituitary problem that really wasn't expected to survive. Every day Tony in a very methodical way figured how to keep that patient alive. I'm very glad to have known Tony and you have my sincerest sympathy

It was 30 years ago, but I remember when I got sand in my eye at the beach, and how much gratitude I had for Tony. Like, what are the chances that I would be on vacation with a doctor of all people? As a 7-year old I surely thought I would have otherwise lost my vision. What a comfort he was in that moment.

It was also the summer after Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet was released, I remember, because Anthony had the cassette tape at the beach house...

"We've got to hold on to what we've got, we're halfway there, living on a prayer."

Nicassio's,
My heart goes out to all of you, and I hope this message is able to reach all of you. Throughout my childhood there was one constant and that was the Nicassio family. As Anthony and I grew older our paths went separate ways, but my fondest memories of growing up were that of which I spent with the Nicassio Family. From my first Pitt Football Game to Summers at the Beach, I was blessed to have been apart of your lives. I shall always cherish those memories and to this day I share them with my children. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers and the Nicassio Family will always have a special place in my heart.

With Love,
Lindsay

Dr. Nicassio was such a great doctor! There are many stories I could tell in my 25 years of being his patient. He always took good care of me and my family. I know one time I was in to see if and I was complaining of a cold that wouldn't go away. He suspected pneumonia. He sent me for the chest xray (which I didn't think was necessary), but it was good that I listened to him, because he was right! He called me right away with the results and got me on the right antibiotics. He also didn't let the insurance companies push him around. He really fought for his patients. The community has lost a great doctor. He will be sorely missed!
