Anthony Owczarek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 6, 2024.
Anthony Joseph Owczarek, affectionately known as Tony, passed away peacefully at home in Mystic, Connecticut, on December 4, 2024, at age 70, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 26, 1954, in Queens, New York, Tony was the cherished son of the late Eileen and Anthony Owczarek. He grew up on Long Island with his siblings, Frank Owczarek, Kathy DaRoza, and Doreen Torebka. Tony proudly took the reins of his father's food distribution business in Maspeth, NY, dedicating over 45 years to building a legacy marked by his vibrant personality and unwavering dedication.

Above all, Tony was a proud father and grandfather; leaving behind his three children: Christina Finley, married to James (Jimmy) Finley, and their two sons, James and George; Jenna Owczarek; and Brian Owczarek with his wife, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Bellin. His love for them was boundless, and his enduring strength and resilience are gifts that will continue to inspire them. Though divorced, Tony shared many joyful years with his former spouse, Myra Owczarek, raising their family with love and laughter.

Known for his extraordinary storytelling, quick wit, and unmatched generosity, Tony was someone you could not easily forget. He spent his days with a cup of coffee in hand, dreaming up plans and projects, enjoying (and dancing to) classic rock, and happily tinkering from morning to night. His sense of humor and zest for life brought joy to all who crossed his path.

A celebration of Tony's life will take place on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at the VFW of Albertson Post 5253 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating to Work Vessels for Vets or the American Cancer Society in his name.

Tony's love, laughter, and legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

Uncle Tony was a support at pivotal moments in my life. Hot dog carts at our birthday parties evolved into Barb & I moving into our first apartment together in a Sabrett truck. My first car, which is the car all my friends learned to drive in, was sourced by Uncle Tony (Fred-a two-tone, black & silver 1978 Buick Rivera). Full of fun, positive energy, crazy stories, and a big smile-he will be missed. Love to you guys who are carrying on his legacy.

Unfortunately, I only knew Tony for a short bit. But the beautiful spirit that I did get the pleasure to meet, was so zealous for life! He left such a positive impact on my existence here. Peace to you, Tony. I can´t wait to meet up with you again!

Tony always was a larger than life character! I still remember in high school how much fun he was when we would all spend time at his house. He was a wonderful, vibrant grandfather and a fantastic dad. He will be so missed by his family and is leaving behind a wonderful legacy.
