Bruce McGaughey was born on April 30, 1973, in Belzoni, Mississippi, to James and Annie Lee McGaughey. Raised with strength, pride, and
resilience, Bruce embodied the enduring spirit of his family name.
Later in life, Bruce made his home in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he became a familiar and respected face at Island View Casino. He proudly served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge, a testament to his dedication, discipline, and sense of duty. Bruce continued to carry these values throughout his life. He later worked in the casino industry at Island View Casino, where he became a familiar and respected face. Known for his steady work ethic and quiet strength, Bruce carried himself with humility and loyalty to those he held close.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, James and Annie Lee McGaughey, James (Pop) McCray; brothers, Charles, Bobby, Timothy, and James Willie McGaughey; sisters, Lillie and Ileane McGaughey; and nephew, Willie McGaughey. Though many of his loved ones went before him, their memories remained etched in his heart.
He leaves behind his devoted companion, Magdalene Gooden; brothers, Ernest McGaughey and Clifford McGaughey; nephews, Dean McGaughey, Rodney McGaughey, and Tyrone McGaughey; and aunts, Mary Baker, Nettie Thornton, Geneva Auston, and Della Martin. He is also survived by cousins, Robert Thornton, Christopher Lowe, Patrick Lowe, Kiesha Lowe, Shearunda Lowe, and Teresa Thornton—along with a
host of other extended family and friends who will miss his quiet presence and unwavering loyalty.
Bruce lived his life with strength and dignity, a man of few words but deep roots. His legacy is one of endurance, love for family, and a life lived with quiet honor.
