Anthony Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2022.
Anthony "AJ" Jeffrie Lee Turner was born in the early evening of Thursday September 13, 1990, in San Antonio, Texas.

He found his peace, on Monday August 29, 2022, in Dallas, Texas.

He is preceded home by his father, Panagiotis ' Taki' Gemelas, of Athens, Greece. His Grandmother, Vera Gemelas, of Athens, Greece. Also, his great grandmother, Ella Reed Dial, of San Antonio, Texas.

AJ is survived by his Mama, Virginia Turner, and his Dad, Thomas Appelbaum. His brothers, Dakota Appelbaum, Zachariah Appelbaum, and Ryver Gonzales.

His grandparents, Sandra Turner, Edwin C. Jr. and Cheryl Turner, and James and Debra Alder. His aunts and uncles, Wade and Gaye Lyn Turner, Jeff and Jan Turner, Trey and Melissa Turner, Jeremy Alder, Joshua and Emily Alder, and Rhianna Richey. As well as many cousins, and numerous friends.

AJ had an ear for music, an eye for art, and a heart for ALL living creatures. He had a devout love for his family, and his friends. But his brothers were his bloodline; Where you saw one, you saw them all. Forever bonded by secrets and dreams.

From a young age, AJ had a thirst for knowledge. If it piqued his interest, he HAD to know. He was a member of The National Honor Society in high school, and with those honors he received a music scholarship. However, AJ had dreams of a somewhat different path. He alongside his brothers, created music of their own. Sharing with all of us, the best of themselves, through their songs.

AJ was a thinker, his mind forever in drive. He wrote thousands of thoughts, in hundreds of journals. Sketching his visions upon many pages. In 2010, he wrote a book, laying himself bare, " From the time under the Willow Tree". He was also most fond of a 4,953 page paper he wrote, " Essay to a Notch". He had many talents, and loved sharing them.

He had a wanderer's heart. No box could contain him, no place could he be still within. He would get a notion in his head, and a destination in his heart, and off he would go.

He walked his way to New York once; and to Chicago twice. He loved to travel, to just go. He was ALL over Texas. From El Paso to Houston, Dallas to Corpus, and everywhere in between. There isn't an area in San Antonio, where his footprints can't be found. If he wanted to see it, NOTHING was going to stand in his way.

Throughout his life, AJ touched many people with his tender smile and his caring heart. I doubt we will ever know just how many paths he crossed and lives he impacted. One thing is for sure, for those of us he has touched, his music, his words, and his loving memory will continue to help guide us on our own paths, to our own peace, Under the Willow Tree.

In honor of AJ, and in lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations of clothing, ( socks, jackets, underwear, beanies, gloves), blankets, sleeping bags, towels, washcloths, hygiene products,( BARS of soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, pads, tampons, baby wipes). And of course monetary donations are welcome as well. It will all go in loving memory of AJ, to:

Christian Assistance Ministry 110 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, Tx 78215.

I did not personally know AJ, but for a time I felt as if I did. About the same time as the Covid lockdowns, I started to see more people in need near my neighborhood. There was a young man whom I saw frequently at the intersection of Camp Bullis and IH 10, and I now recognize him as AJ. I could tell that he was close in age to my own son, and I felt such a strong feeling of wanting to help him. He never asked for anything, but I would carry food in my car for him. He never seemed to be there on those days. I thought about trying to talk to him to see how I could help, but I was too afraid to do that. I thought of him and worried when the weather was bad, wondering how he was managing. And then, months ago, I didn't see him at the corner any more. I hoped for the best, but feared the worst, and now I know what happened. AJ sounds like he was a very special young man, and I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I can tell from the photographs that he was loved very much by his fa. I just wanted you to know that he touched even the strangers by the side of the road with his humanity.

Oh AJ, how I wish we had met when we crossed paths, as I am sure we did a few times in our varied travels. Listening to your Mama passionately describe her sweet boy will forever have my ear. You have left an indelible impression on so many and your memory is and forever permanent. In these last few weeks, many have come forward and expressed their pleasure in having met you. They were mere strangers to us but not to you. Using some of your written words, you have left so many weeping unprepared for your final journey. I will read your book cover to cover and take joy from every word. I´m sure there will be a few tears before I turn the final page. Rest assured your Mama will honor you as she takes on new role and advocate for change. I know your brothers, your extended family, friends, and strangers will forever treasure your words, your voice, and your memory. I will too. I know you are at peace, rest easy AJ. I too, will one day meet you on the other side.
