Toni was an amazing person in so many ways. We shared an office in the Riverside Health Partners Clinic. Although our work was serious and intense, a day didn't pass without a good laugh. We bonded and she shared so much of her past with me. I feel like she gave me a wonderful gift by trusting me enough to tell me about her struggles and achievements. I miss that beautiful smile and those sparkling blue eyes!

I met Toni while swimming on the Masters Team at the YWCA about 5 years ago. We swam and cycled together, and I saw her regularly on the triathlon circuit. The last time I saw her was when I was volunteering at the YWCA tri last August, when she told me she was sick. Typical Toni, she was more worried about how I would react than about herself. She was so modest that she never told me about her place in Minnesota history. I would have loved to hear her stories about that. I will miss her twinkly blue eyes and disarming smile, but I feel very fortunate that I knew her at all.

I had the pleasure and honor to work with Toni at the parks and recreation department. She was such a vibrant and caring person. Although I had lost contact with her, reading of her passing was most sad. I wish her family the best in these difficult times, but they have the memory of a person who really made a difference and impacted all those she came in contact with.

In 1973 I was in a high school play at Hopkins Eisenhower titled "Suzy Q". It was about Toni St. Pierre's experience becoming part of the Boy's Track Team. I remember she was at one of the evening performances and waved to the audience. I heard a lot about Toni while preparing for the play and was forever inspired by her actions and spirit of determination. - Lynn S.

The right words never seem to come to me when I'm sitting in front of a computer and my feelings for Toni can't be expressed in a paragraph or two. She gave of herself without expectations. People talk about unconditional love. It's a very hard thing to do in this life. Toni did it effortlessly. She changed my life and I will miss her .

I was privileged to work closely with Toni at HealthPartners (then Group Health) in the early 90s. She inspired many and left an indelible and positive mark on the lives of countless women. Her dedication to patients, friends, family were awesome. Life with Toni as a co-worker was never dull---even on a quiet day, her smile and great sense of humor would light up everyone's day.
I will miss knowing that Toni is spreading her light to everyone she meets.

I've been blessed to have known Toni for 25 years---she was the Mother/Baby Chemical Health Specialist at HealthPartners when I first met her (she literaly brought her work home--you never knew who would be around the dinner table during her weekends off), then I worked with her while she was a staff nurse on the Birthplace & finally she was one of my supervisors---she expected lots from you but was always fair, understanding & compassionate....plus, she had a killer sense of humor!! I missed Toni when she went to work for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinic but she would stop by & catch me up on her "comings & goings"! I'm also lucky enough to call her daughter Alicia a dear friend---my thoughts & prayers to her family. What an amazing role-model, mother, woman and friend.....Toni you will be missed by so many!

I was a fellow Lake Conference athlete in high school when Toni was literally making history. We (guys) were frankly in awe of her. I then was blessed to get to know her more during our years at St John's / St. Bens. Her smile was as large as her spirit and her blue eyes would light up a room. I have three daughters that were accomplished athletes in high school and college. I have told them about Toni as they were growing up. They and so many young women have benefited in untold ways by the courage & spirit of Toni. God Bless her.

Minnesota lost one of its champions last Saturday. Toni St. Pierre paved the athletic way for so many girls and women across the state…. including my three daughters. Her strength, courage, drive and athletsism helped break the mold that propelled women's athletics in Minnesota to where it is today. While at St. John's, in Collegeville, I was blessed to have Toni's presence along with my teammates in track and cross-country. Her warm smile, bright eyes and positive demeanor helped bring out the best in everyone. Those pleasant memories with Tim and Toni in those years, lessens the pain of our loss.

Toni was my babysitter on Dominick Spur and while I haven't seen her in years, I'll never forget watching her run by our back yard during the annual Raspberry 5K run and bumping into her in Colorado Springs when she was there for a track meet. What a terrible loss. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Toni was always smiling and was a great example that showed women can play any sport just like the guys, and usually better. I would have loved to have her as my OB nurse. Go in peace, Toni.

February 7, 2013

Grew up next door to Toni. My parents still live on Dominick next door to Marie (Toni's mom). Toni moved in with her mom over a year ago to help take care of Marie and sadly it turned out to be the other way around. Just last summer and fall Toni was always outside working hard on the house and yard. I was cutting a tree down at my parents and Toni came over and told me I better slow down and be careful, she said with a smile "I don't want to have to come over and apply a turniquet". Sad day today.

What I remember most about Toni was that she was always smiling. She had such a positive happy aura about her. She was such an amazing woman who was so strong. I remember one time she came to Oliver's Tball game and she had biked from her house in Mpls to St. Paul. The bike ride was a cake walk to her and I thought, wow! how can she still be walking. I had only been able to spend a handful of times with her, but she was someone who you wanted to spend more time with. My heartfelt prayers are with your family.

I have known Toni for many years and she has been an inspiration in what a woman can do with her life. As a Mother, she was profoundly loving and accepting of her children. As a professional she was respected and admired. As an athlete, she was a a go-getter, overcoming whatever obstacles needed to be overcome and of course she was a beautiful woman physically. I am dumbfounded by the loss of this valuable person but I hope that her children can take comfort in their warm memories of her.

Thoughts and prayers for the St. Pierre family. You may not know me, but I graduated from St. Margaret's in 1974, the last class of all girls. I remember Toni on the track team, even though I was younger, you was something special. Radiant with a positive attitude and hard work. I called Cathie Twomey one of my best friends and I am certain they ran together and she would like to know. Take care.
Sincerely,

I was fortunate to have met Toni my first day of high schol. For the next three years we ran together, ski'd together and partied together. Strong, indepedent and fiercely loyal only begin to describe this incredible spirit. I can not think about high school without thinking of Toni. We have lost an incredible person,

My husband pointed out Toni's high school picture in the paper today stating she would be honored for her role in women's sports, at the State Capitol, and a couple minutes later showed me her obituary. I am sorry for the loss of Toni, our 1973 "Ike" class member.

Was so terribly sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Toni only briefly, but she was a woman who made a lasting impression in a very short time! She was everything I admired in a woman, a nurse, & in a fellow human being. The world is a richer place for her having been in it, even if it was too briefly. Her spirit soars unencumbered by cancer now - godspeed Toni!

In honor of Toni, please read the Lyrics to 'Forever Young'. Toni's ladder to the stars was built with hard work. She searched to see the truth, while seeing the light around her. She had the grace to let others help her. She was courageous and upright and true. She shifted with the changing wind. And Toni-when your friends get together, your song will be sung. I love you, and miss you. Peace to all.

Toni was one of those truely inspirational people. A hard worker who often gave more than was expected. A kind soul who always had a smile and a kind word no matter what the hour or what was happening. A great nurse. I am sorry that Toni is gone from the world and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.
