Antonia Ocana Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2012.
LINCOLN - Antonia Lozano Van de Walle de Ocana, 76, suffered a massive stroke Nov. 21, 2012, and died surrounded by her loving family at Penobscot Valley Hospital. She was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain.

Everyone who knew Antonia "Tona" would agree that the woman was truly a gift to all who met and loved her. She was a very compassionate, warm and generous woman, who always placed the needs of others above her own needs, and was focused on the happiness of her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother and friend. She was devoted to her family and church. She was an avid cross-country and downhill skier, and loved watching figure skating competitions. Quilting was her passion. We are all better for having had her in our lives, and while we mourn her passing we are truly thankful for sharing our lives with her.

She is survived by her husband, Emilio Ocana, M.D.; her son, Ted Ocana and his wife, Heidi; her two daughters, Karen Stephani and her husband, Dennis, and Christine Crocker and her husband, Dan; her brothers, Luis, Fernando, Jorge and Manuel; her sisters, Josefina and Nazareth; 11 grandchildren, Tabitha, Jeremy, Jennifer, Isaac, Ellie, Amanda, Carson, Lucia, Hope, Alexandra and Brandon; and five great-grandchildren, Eve, Joy, Wyatt, Ian and Eden. She was predeceased by her siblings, Juan, Maria Concha and Carlos; and her granddaughter, Raquel.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Saint Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Lincoln, with interment after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Charities at www.ccmaine.org. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at www.clayfuneralhome.com.

Bill and I join with the many sending their heartfelt love and prayers to all of you at this most difficult time. Knowing she is with God is little solace to those left behind, but as we as friends see her as so loving and kind, it must have been remarkable living with her. I recall the first parent conference when I had Karen, and I could scarcely understand Tona, and the trips to Europe that Chris talked about, and Ted's fantastic 8th grade monologue driving a car, and how difficult it was for Dr. Ocana to tell me about Len's cancer. Amazing how God puts people in our lives to teach us how to care for others and be the kind of people He expected us to be. May peace and prayers be with you as you face His blessed season without her warmth. Love, Bill and Donna Welch
