Mr. Antonio Godinho Boneca, age 74 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2018, in Pinewood Court, Hummingbird Unit, with family by his side after a lengthy battle with multiple illnesses. Fr. Rey Ronquillo administered the Anointing of the Sick to Antonio.
Antonio was born on May 29, 1943 in Brinches, Serpa, Portugal and his journey led him to Thunder Bay finding employment in the forest industry. He was an active member with the Portuguese Association of Thunder Bay and Port Arthur Legion Branch 5. Antonio enjoyed travelling, camping, dancing and attending banquets on a regular basis, and proudly making his homemade wine and cooking for special occasions which was also one of his passions.
Antonio is survived by nieces Maria Dejesus Bonecas-Mosca, Ana Maria Bonecas, great-niece Andrea Filipa Bonecas-Mosca and great nephew Nuno Jose Bonecas-Mosca all residing in Portugal. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from Thunder Bay; Elizabeth & William Babe, Dorothy Sdraulig (Giuseppe deceased), Rose Marie and Sergio Villalta, Barbara and Frank Valente, Valerie and Paul Victor, Maureen and Jim Kuluski, Debbie and Tim Bjorklund, John and Pat Hagdu, and Joseph and Janice Hagdu. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also make up his extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Jose Romao Boneca and Ana Tadeu Godinho and brother Jose Inacio Bonecas. Antonio will also be reunited with his loving wife Shirley and their only beloved son Anthony who in 2006 heroically surrendered his life in Afghanistan.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 615 Connolly Street, with Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Arockiam. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the Mass, at the church. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
