Archie Cobb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 11 to Nov. 12, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers, 1011 Bertrand Drive for Archie Allen Cobb III, who left us to be with his Lord and Savior this past Sunday, November 10, 2013. He passed away at home in the comfort of his family, after a battle with cancer. He was born to the late Archie Allen Cobb, Jr. and his wife Mildred, on November 27, 1942 in Coushatta, Louisiana. The oil field brought the entire Cobb family, which included six sons and a daughter, to south Louisiana in 1952. Archie married Jane McClelland Cobb on July 10, 1961, and they have lived in and around the Acadiana area since then. The family residence is a beautiful home located in Milton Louisiana, along the Vermilion River. Archie was a veteran of the oilfield, owning and operating his own company, Cobb Directional Drilling from 1979-1996. He enjoyed several hobbies, including hunting, golf, and sporting clays. He was a commercial pilot and a life member of the Commemorative Air Force-Ghost Squadron. He was a member of Hope Masonic Lodge #145 and a charter member of the Habibi Shrine Club-Lake Charles. He was a life member of the national Sporting Clays Association, the National Skeet Shooting Association, and the American quarter Horse Association. His professional affiliations were memberships in the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers. He was also a past member of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette, Oakbourne Country Club and Letriomphe Country Club. Archie is survived by his wife Janie; by his son, Archie Allen Cobb IV; by his daughters, Cynthia Cobb Simmons and her husband Darryl Lane Simmons and Mary Kate Cobb; his grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth Simmons, William Cobb Simmons, Wesley Lane Simmons, Mattie Ann Simmons, Kristin Kate Cobb, Jacob Allen Cobb; and his siblings, Charles Brown Cobb, Bobby Gene Cobb, William Daly Cobb, Marcus Tyrone Cobb, John Mitchell Cobb and Carol Lynnette Cobb Freeman. Visitation with the family will begin at 4:00 pm until time of service on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Archie will be sorely missed by family and friends who have been blessed by his love and by his incredible sense of humor. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to Mount Carmel Elementary School, 405 Park Avenue, Abbeville LA 70510 or Vermilion Catholic High School, 425 Park Avenue, Abbeville, LA 70510. Personal condolences may be sent to the Cobb family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA is in charge of funeral arrangements.

So sorry to hear about Mr. Archie's passing. I worked for DMI for 16 years and always enjoyed his short visits. He was a truly kind and awesome gentleman to have met. He is definitely sitting next to God in heaven feeling total joy and happiness no more pain and suffering.

While we drifted apart after we became adults, I will always remember Archie as one of warmest, funniest, most upbeat and quick witted people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. My heart goes out to Janie and her family and to Archie's brothers and sister. R.I. P. Archie - see you on the other side!

Archie was a good man and a friend to many in his community, the oil & gas industry and will be remembered for his humor and hard work. The Angels have taken his soul to be with God for eternity and left us with wonderful memories of his time with us.
God Bless him & his family.
