Archie Danny Coleman, 74, of Huntsville, AL, passed away Sunday at Huntsville Hospital. Danny was born in Metter, GA to Archie D. and Eula Marie Collins Coleman.
Danny graduated in 1957 from Collins High School in Collins, GA where he played basketball and baseball, and was president of the senior class. He attended Berry College in Rome, GA, played basketball and baseball, and graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in physics and math.
Danny was raised on a farm between Cobbtown and Collins, GA. He was an outdoorsman, keenly interested in fishing and hunting. He also loved sports, playing baseball and basketball in high school and college and was a dedicated coach in the Huntsville Parks and Recreation League, coaching basketball, baseball and football for 10 years.
Danny joined Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 9. He had a great love for Jesus Christ and served as pianist at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church until beginning his career at NASA. After moving to Huntsville, he attended Grace Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where he served as deacon, song leader and Bible study teacher for nearly 40 years. He also attended Heritage Primitive Baptist Church in Huntsville.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Evelyn Coleman; sons, Clint and wife, Jennifer, Chris and wife, Vivian; grandsons, Aaron, Turner and Landen; granddaughter, Abigail; sister, JoFaun and husband, Mike Waters; sister-in-law, Emma and husband, Billy Hess; nephews and nieces, Greg Hess and wife, Dee Dee, Julie and husband, Marty Williams, Kevin Waters and wife, Candace, Kelly and husband, Blake McMillian; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Elder Mike Stewart and Elder Lee Price officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins, GA. (www.laughlinservice.com)
