OSKALOOSA — Archie Mangold II, 35, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.He was born Dec. 8, 1973, at Pekin, Ill., the son of Archie and Rebecca Elzey Mangold. He graduated from the Pekin Community High School at Packwood with the class of 1991, and furthered his education earning bachelor’s degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, in Cedar Falls, in English in 1996 and from William Penn College in Communication and Journalism in 2006. While at William Penn, Archie was the editor of the college newspaper. Later, he worked at APAC in Oskaloosa for many years. He attended the Grace Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed writing.His family includes his sister and her husband: Dawn and Jack Vanderhyde, of Silverdale, Wash.; a niece, Danielle Vanderhyde; a nephew, Jack Vnderhyde Jr.; and many aunts and uncles: Ruth and Paul Elzey, of Sully, Ernest and Karen Elzey, of LaPorte City, John and Margaret Elzey, of Cornell, Ill., Bill and Chris Mangold, of Washington, Ill., and Geraldine and Wayne Koontz, of Martinsburg.He was preceded in death by his parents and two uncles: Terry Mangold and Robert Reed.Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Roger Neumann officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral ceremony.Visitation with the family present will be Friday at the Bates Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Archie Mangold Memorial Fund.
