Ariosto Tontodonati Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 5, 2016.
Ariosto Tontodonati (96) was born on September 18, 1920 in Scafa, Italy and died on October 3, 2016 in Pompano Beach, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Elizabeth, and his three loving daughters Philomena Pezzano and her husband, Joseph, Elvira Camilla and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his devoted granddaughter, Anne, and her husband Tim and his two great-grandchildren Jack and Abbey. He is predeceased by his brothers Gregorio, Valentino, Venanzio and Duce and a sister Maria.
Ariosto and Elizabeth married on August 31, 1947. He emigrated to the United States in 1951 where he was proud to become a United States citizen. They resided in Jersey City, New Jersey and Hackensack, New Jersey where he and Elizabeth raised their three daughters.
Ariosto was known for his expertise in auto body repair and was the proprietor of Tonto's Auto Body in Hackensack. He continued in this work until the young age of 80. Like most Italian Americans, some of his favorite pastimes have been playing Bocce, tending his garden and making wine each year.
During his years of active UNICO membership, Ariosto served in various capacities in the Hackensack Chapter. He enjoyed service work and especially enjoyed meeting UNICO members at the various national conventions he attended.
Ariosto and Elizabeth had retired to Pompano Beach, Florida and recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Ariosto was active in St. Gabriel's Church in Pompano Beach as an usher and in other capacities.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to be made in Ariosto's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org

Ariosto and "Dolly" ... my Godfather and Godmother .. I learned to love at a tender age. Always wonderful and welcoming to me .. I have fond memories of spending time visiting with them and next door at my grandparents' house. Too bad the years drew us apart as I entered the military and spent 20 years in uniform and traveling. They will forever have a special place in my heart.

Tribute to Ariosto Tontodonati from Son-in-Law, Joseph Pezzano

Society likes to label generations with names that typify their character. I would like to name the generation from which ARIOSTO came from as the "UNREAL" generation.
Let's take a look at his life and put it into perspective....

What kind of man today could leave his native land, with a limited education, very little money and begin a "new" life in a country he knew very little about.

What kind of man would find a trade and work diligently to perfect his skills to become a remarkable craftsman in his own right?

What kind of man would think nothing of working 12 to 15 hours a day to provide a better life for his family?

What kind of man would sacrifice his limited leisure time to build a home with his own hands to provide a more suitable home for his family?

What kind of man would make additional sacrifices to raise 3 beautiful daughters and allow them the opportunity to have the education he never had?

What kind of man would remain loyal to his loving wife for 69 years, the act of infidelity never even crossing his mind?

What kind of man could love his new country and embrace it as much as his native land?

This, my dear friends and family, is the kind of man dreams are made of. This is just a snapshot of what a man whose 96 years on this earth offered.

Ariosto was truly a man to be emulated, a man to admire and respect, an honest man, a man of integrity.

I am proud to have been a part of his life and his family. I loved him and will miss him very much.

Until we meet again, YOUR ONE AND ONLY SON-IN-LAW.......JOE
