Arlene Waite Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
Arlene was born December 27, 1933 in Macksville, Kansas to Nona and Preston Harold Beckerdite. She had one brother, Atlee Dean. Arlene was married June 7, 1952 to Elvin C (AL) Waite, the love of her life, who preceded her in death in 2006. In Arlene's own words: "Although this couple is not famous or rich, their relationship will go on record as one of the most binding and beautiful love stories among their peers".

Arlene was a dedicated mother to her two sons. Al and Arlene were both very involved in church activities, Boy Scouts, and school activities. In 1964 she completed a refresher course in business and helped Al in starting his business at Roto-Aire Filter Sales & Service. She went on to work for the Granite school district, State of Utah Dept of Education and then retired from Wells Fargo in 1991.

Her life was dedicated to helping others. She volunteered with Club Vision in Salt Lake City and at both the Salvation Army and Virgin Valley Family Services Thrift Store in Mesquite, Nevada. She was a member of the Mesquite Exchange Club. Arlene was a quiet philanthropist, supporting many causes in Mesquite, anonymously. In Arlene's own words: "I love all my friends everywhere. I love my blind friends, Virgin Valley Friends, Salvation Army, and my K-9 friends, and so many more".

Arlene was an avid fisherwoman, golfer and tennis player. Her cabin at Strawberry reservoir had been her sanctuary. She loved going ATV riding in the hills and mountains around Mesquite. She had played the piano for the melodramas in Park City. She also was a fierce competitor in any game of cards.

Arlene experienced several heartaches in her life: losing her beloved Al and her sons' estrangements from her by their actions and harsh words regarding their inheritances. Arlene had said many times that she had forgiven them but could never forget what had been said.

Arlene is survived by her two sons, Joe (Sandy) and Gail (Sidney) Waite, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, August 27th at Valley Presbyterian Church, 350 Falcon Ridge Parkway, Suite 702, Mesquite NV. Internment following at New City Cemetery located at 1362 Hardy Way, Mesquite, NV. Following the family welcomes you to visit with them and enjoy light refreshments at Arlene's house from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

Arlene and I went to 11 years of school and here brother married my sister. Arlene was always the same, just like her mother. Rock solid and always fun to be close. Sad to know she passed.

I will never forget this beautiful lady. We go back to the old Walker Bank days. She was always such a delight. When she would come back to Salt Lake we would meet for lunch and catch up. I was able to visit her at her home in Mesquite a couple times and she was such a gracious hostess. I loved this sweet lady. Until we meet again.......

Although it´s been many years since I´ve golfed with Arlene. I have had the opportunity over the past many years to golf with Sid and Gail. Two of the most respected, honest, giving people that are loved and cherished by the Alpine family,

What a special lady and a joy to know! She always made sure others were smiling, even though she was fighting her own battles. I have great respect and love for her and I know she is with Al now, and watching over all of us with that big smile of hers! Rest in peace, Arlene
