Arlue Ritzel

Arlue E. Ritzel, nee Zimmer, 97, of Waterloo, Ill., born Jan. 27, 1914, in Valmeyer, Ill., died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in Waterloo, Ill.

Mrs. Ritzel was a full-time church organist at St. John's for 34 years, long time Sunday school and bible school teacher, bookkeeper, member of Home Community Education, former worthy matron of the Eastern Star, inducted in Valmeyer Music Hall of Fame, and a member of Hungry Eight Card Club for 68 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, August P. "Gus" Ritzel, whom she married June 23, 1934; and her parents, H. Jacob and Emma Catherine, nee Loewe, Zimmer.

She is survived by four sons, Dennis (Kay) Ritzel, Dale (Janet) Ritzel, Morris (Sandy) Ritzel, Kent (Nancy) Ritzel; a sister, Florus Chandler; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions to: Arlue Ritzel Music Fund which benefits the Valmeyer High School music program, St. John UCC, Valmeyer, Ill., or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo, Ill., and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at St. John United Church of Christ, Valmeyer, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at St. John United Church of Christ, Valmeyer, Ill., with Pastor David Riebeling officiating. Burial will be held at St. John Cemetery, Valmeyer, Ill.
