Armando Rosales Obituary

After declining health for the past several months, Dr. Armando Augusto Rosales, 91, passed away on Feb. 28, 2022, in Panama City, Fla. Armando and his wife Sally had been residents of Atlantic for many years before moving to Florida to live near their son and daughter-in-law in 2015.

The son of Guadalupe and Antonina Herrera Rosales, Armando was born Sept. 10, 1930, in Jinotega, Nicaragua and grew up in Managua, Nicaragua. He was the youngest son of 10 children. In the mid 1950s, he immigrated to the United States and received a BS and MS from the University of Arkansas and a PhD from the University of Missouri. On Jan. 26, 1962, he married Sally Lorene Guinnip at Richland Baptist Church in Kingdom City, Mo. They lived in Madrid, Spain from 1962 to 1966 where Armando was Technical Director of poultry and livestock at Kenndysa Farm. From 1966 to 1970, they lived in Birmingham, Ala. where he worked for Ralston Purina. In 1970, they moved to Atlantic where he worked for Walnut Grove as an animal nutritionist until 1988.

Armando received his Certificate of Naturalization on Oct. 28, 1970. He was a proud American and Democrat and active in politics and civic organizations while they lived in Atlantic.

Armando is survived by his wife Sally, their son Armando Lee (Jan), and his daughter Xiomara Janssen. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Daniel Janssen, Jeremiah Janssen, Antonina (Lucas) Hall, Emma Jane Rosales (Michael Boland), and Sophie Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, and grandson, Joseph Michael Rosales.
