ARNOLD GREENBERG Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2016.
GREENBERG--Arnold L.,

who for more than three decades owned and operated the renowned Complete Traveller Bookstore on Madison Avenue, died on January 22nd. Born in The Bronx during the depression, Arnold attended CCNY and NYU Law School before embarking upon a lengthy career as a lawyer with the firm "Greenberg & Tuchman." In 1965, along with his wife, Harriet, Greenberg wrote the first Arthur Frommer travel guide to South America, "South America on $5 a day." The Greenbergs became among the most accomplished travel writers in America, for decades writing the Frommer guides as well as founding their own "Alive" series of travel guides to various South American destinations. During the 1980's, the Greenbergs bought the "The Complete Traveller," the nation's first travel bookstore, which they owned and operated until 2015. Arnold was an avid fan of The New York Jets and New York Knicks and considered Joe Dimaggio the greatest baseball player that ever lived. He was also a regular patron of the Metropolitan Opera for more than forty years. Arnold is survived by his wife, Harriet, his sons, Michael and Douglas, daughters-in-law Stacy and Jill, and four grandchildren: Nicole, Stephen, Reed and Hudson.

Harriet, Mike, Doug & children,
It was a long haul for Arnold and for all of you. He was one of our favorite dinner companions, always upbeat and stimulating, lots of fun, too. As someone else said - he was one of a kind. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Love to all of you,
