We are truly saddened to hear of Dirk's passing. He was a dear friend to both of us. Dirk lived across the street from me (Beth) for many years and was another "brother" to me. He was a HHS classmate of ours and will be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathy to the entire Flick family.

To the Flick family,
I worked with Dirk in the School City of Hammond. I learned a lot from him, and had a great respect for the job that he did. My Dad also worked with Dirk, and felt the same way. Dirk had a way of not just being a boss, he became a friend. I will always keep Dirk and his family in my thoughts and prayers. I think Dirk was a GREAT GUY, and know that he is now in Heaven.
Sincerely,
Mike Spudic

As a former student of WHS and someone that feels deeply honored to have had Mr. Flick as not only a principal but also a very dear friend of the family, I couldn't imagine having gone through life without knowing him. I know that I had a place in his heart and he will always have a huge place in mine. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Nancy, his children, and everyone else who loved him dearly. There will be a void in the halls of Whiting High School that I feel will be irreplaceable.
I love you Mr. Flick~ I will always be your "squeak".

Dear Family Members: I attended HHS with Dirk. I remember him even though it's been 30+ yrs since high school days. I do remember he was a very nice and friendly guy. I did not know him that well, but what I do remember of him makes it no surprise in his career choice. Caring and doing for others. I read the paper on-line and my heart fell when I read his name. The name, Dirk Flick, is not very common so I did more research to my dismay. I wish you all peace and loving memories.

Having been both a student and co-worker of Dirk really showed me the full breadth of the dedication he poured into his craft, which far exceeds that of many people I've met. A job like his is far from being easy, but he often made it look that way. I am both humbled and grateful for the time I knew him, and offer my deepest sympathy.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I was in Hobart recently and made the pilgrimage to Brickie Bowl. I can see Dirk in that uniform with a big 'ol grin on his face. Once a Brickie, always a Brickie. I'm proud to say he was a classmate of mine!

My deepest sympathy to the Flick family. I remember Dirk as a young "brickee". He attended Hobart High School with my son, Bruce, and both went on with great careers. Dirk always had a smile and made a point to say "hello". He will be missed by many true "brickee's".

To the entire Flick family,
We were neighbors of the Flicks in Villa Shores when Dirk was just a grade schooler and he always held a special place in our hearts.
We were shocked and saddened by the news of his passing.
Just a couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours visiting with him. We were pleased, though not really surprised, at the extraordinary man he grew up to be.
Shirley and Chuck, Jay, Nancy and family....we send our deepest condolences to you at this very sad time.

Nancy and Family,
It is with a saddened heart that I write to you about the passing of Dirk. Since the first day I met him at Clark, he was a special person. Whether as a colleague or administraor Dirk was first a friend and someone that you knew you were getting the truth from. As a rival principal, he was always there to call and congratulate me when we had done something well or let me know if there was a problem. He will be missed by many. The last time I talked to him he called me in Vegas during my lunch hour just to say hello and ask how things were going.
Each time one of my teams came to Whiting he was there to greet me with that big smile and firm handshake. He really made me feel at home.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and I just wanted to say that I am a better person because I knew Dirk Flick.

How can I extend to Dirk's family how much I enjoyed and admired him as a "boss" and as a friend?! Working with him at Crown Point High School was never dull. He and Larry Shrader constantly had some personal competitions going that lived up the office and lightened up our spirits and attitudes. After he moved to Whiting High School, I could always call and talk to him. He always had time. He will be sorely missed - as an administrator and as a person. May God bless Dirk (and watch out for his practical jokes), and may God give you, his family, peace and comfort.
