Arthur Estes, III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 26 to Feb. 28, 2024.
Arthur George Estes, III, age 75, of Gay, Georgia, died Thursday, February 22,2024, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, Georgia. Mr. Estes was born December 17, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Arthur George Estes, Jr. and Jane Lane Estes. He was a life long member of Enon Primitive Baptist Church in Gay, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert George Estes, stepdaughter Emily Turner Smith, brother Lee Mann Estes and nephew Bill Keith.

He is survived by his wife Stiles Allen Estes, stepdaughter Ellen Turner (Carson) Pilcher of Atlanta, Georgia, sister Sallie Estes (Joe) Keith of Gay, Georgia, brother Dr. Thomas Lane (Jennie) Estes of Moultrie, Georgia, grandchildren Sara Ashley Estes and Robert George Estes, Jr., step grandchildren Stiles Pilcher, Jack Smith and Cullen Smith, and loving nieces and nephews.

Arthur was a land manager and developer. In 1974 he realized that farming the land was no longer lucrative and dreamed of a place where sportsmen could enjoy the beauty of the woods and the joys of hunting. He decided to build a hunting preserve which later became Big Red Oak Plantation. Like an artist he could envision how it should look. He took his bulldozer and tractor instead of an easel and paint brush and created beautiful landscapes for hunting.

He was an excellent dog trainer and soon many were coming to enjoy the beautiful outdoors that he had enjoyed all his life. Arthur treasured his friends and made many through the years. His warm smile made others feel loved and accepted.

It is a wonderful thing for a man to love what he does every day, and it shows in his work. Arthur would agree with the old saying, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

Graveside services were held 2:00 pm Monday, February 26, 2024, at Crouch Cemetery in Gay, Georgia.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be given in his memory to Enon Primitive Baptist Church, PO Box 13, Gay, Georgia 30218.
