ARTHUR JING M.D.

Arthur Jing, a long-time Fresno physician, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010, at the age of 87. He was born in Canton, China, and came to Fresno as a child. He graduated from Fresno High School, Fresno State University, and Northwestern Medical School in 1948, interned at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and completed his residency in internal medicine at Wesley Memorial Hospitals in Wichita, Kansas and Chicago. He served in the U.S. Air Force at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida for two years. Returning to Fresno in 1953, he started his internal medicine practice treating his patients with expertise, kindness and compassion for 40 years. Continuing to serve the community, Arthur worked as a Medical Consultant for the State of California, Department of Social Services from 1993 to 2008. Dr. Jing served as President of the Medical Staff of Fresno Community Hospital in 1973. Whether known as Dr. Jing, Arthur, Art, Dad, or "Baba", as his treasured grandchildren called him, Arthur was always available to listen, then offer his much-esteemed advice to those who sought it. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched. Art, as he was known to friends, is survived by Phyllis, his beloved wife of 60 years; son, Arthur Philip Jing of Aptos, Ca.; daughter, Rosalie Jing of Oakland, Ca.; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Low of Del Mar, Ca.; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Michelle and Mark Horton of Irvine, Ca.; and grandson, Michael Low of Del Mar, Ca.; He is also survived by five siblings and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Fresno Madera Medical Society Scholarship Foundation, P.O.
