Arthur Jusko Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 16 to Dec. 18, 2020.
Arthur Joseph Jusko

Tallahassee - Arthur Joesph Jusko was born October 22, 1936, in St. Augustine, Florida died on December 13, 2020, in Tallahassee, Florida, at his family home with his wife of 58 years by his side.

Arthur has not seen his mother for 76 years, and his father for 69 years. After his parents' deaths, he was watched over by the Catholic Church and family members - mostly, he raised himself.

As the song says, he did it his way because it was the only way he knew. He lived the American Dream with a focus on the importance of family. He had a big heart and was never shy about giving you his opinion - loudly. "I am not yelling - I am talking loud."

Arthur enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1956.

He attended ABAC Agricultural College, Rollins College, Mexico City College in Mexico City Mexico, The University of Georgia (which he claimed). He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida (which he considered claiming because of football).

Arthur began his career as a high school history teacher in Orlando, Florida, and became an educational material salesman working for Scholastic Books for 20 years before opening up several businesses in Tallahassee. He sat on many charity and local boards with literacy volunteers being close to his heart, reflecting his start in education. He was the founder of Southwinds Press, The Fun Station, and AJ Sports Bar all located in Tallahassee.

"Mr. J," said there is no secret to success- "Just get up, work hard, and it doesn't have to be fun."

Having lost his parents young, he defined family as much larger than just relatives. He was blessed with tremendous friends and enjoyed traveling much of the world with the Coopers and Mustians. He cherished many of the young men and women he mentored throughout his business career and was always willing to lend an ear or his time in their pursuits, including tough love and an honest view.

He loved his children and grandchildren; everything he did was for their best interest. His grandchildren brought him so much joy providing extra meaning to his twilight years.

The Hudson and Harper families in Ocilla, Georgia were always in his heart - it was home to him.

Special thanks to Seymore and Kantin for the care and love you provided to Arthur and his wife over the last year.

Arthur was preceded in death by his mother Agitha Harper and his father George "Duke" Jusko. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his sister Patricia of Dallas, Texas, his sons John and Jason, and his wife Traci, five grandchildren Jacob, Thomas, Nicholas, Jonathan, and Olivia, all of Tallahassee, Florida.

The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. to be followed by a graveside service at Roselawn Cemetery at approximately 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Big Bend Hospice: 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308.

Mr. J was my first boss EVER. He hired me as a 10th grader birthday party coordinator for Putt-Putt in the summer of 1978. I "graduated" to more important work as the business expanded to being one of the very first game rooms ever. I worked during college breaks when I came home to Tally from college away. He and his family sent me off into "Putt-Putt Retirement" when I graduated college in December 1984 and I moved away from Tally to start my career elsewhere. I remember his family giving me a lovely retirement dinner out and giving me money (always nice) and - even better- a roll of tokens to play video games, sending me off with well wishes and sage advice. He was more than a boss (who, yeah, "spoke loudly"). He taught me about work. "If you have time to lean, you have to clean." You don't know how many golf balls and club handles I washed on those slow days!!! Fast forward to 2009. My daughter's fifth grade field trip was to Tally (via Gainesville), and I reached out to The Fun Spot since it was on our field trip visit list. The Jusko family not only remembered me, but they welcomed me with fanfare and made my daughter and myself feel like queens on our visit to my hometown. Working for the Jusko family was the best first job I could have had, and I have such incredible memories from those days. Love Liz, too. Oh, and I guess I owe the Jusko's MY family, because I met my husband (now of 34 years) AT PUTT-PUTT. All my love to the family, even his annoying little boys- John and Jason. Oh, wait, they aren't little any more, and I'm sure they're not annoying. LOL. Hugs to you, Mrs. J!!!!
