Arthur "Art" Oliver

KILGORE -- Memorial services for Arthur Herbert "Art" Oliver, of Kilgore, will be 4 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2005, at the Danville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Hudspeth and the Rev. Ralph Rudy officiating. Private burial services will be scheduled at a later date. Mr. Oliver died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at his home after a long struggle with cancer. He was born August 11, 1932, to Herbert and Rose Oliver, in Churchbridge Saskatchewan, Canada. Art was retired from the Royal Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force. After serving in the Royal Canadian Army during the Korean War, he was reassigned to Germany, where he served with the Peacekeepers. Upon his discharge, he worked in the steel mills of Canada. Mr. Oliver later enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and taught survival training skills until he retired at age 70 with the rank of captain. He and Agnes met through the Internet in January 1997, and were married in November of that same year. Art enjoyed woodworking and made intricate wooden toys. He also played his guitar for the residents of various nursing homes. Art was a very loving husband and a person who enjoyed those around him. All who knew him will miss his hearty laugh and warm nature. Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife, Agnes Oliver of Kilgore; three daughters, Wendy Voykin of Canada, Donna Huston of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Penny Hoydem of Canada; two sisters, Wynne Demears and Gertrude Cross, both of British Columbia; two stepsons, James Elms Jr. of Wichita Falls, and Troy Elms of College Station; stepdaughter, Karen Elms Saunders of Spring; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many loving friends.
