PONDER, JR., ARTHUR H. 85, of Hoover, passed away, Feb. 27, 2013. He was preceded by his wife of 64 yrs., Dorothy Jean Ponder; parents, Willie Mae & Arthur H. Ponder, Sr. and sister Marjorie Ponder. He leaves behind his son, Harris (Jane) Ponder, daughter, Debbie Ponder (Bill) Parks grandchildren, Ryan (Clare), Eric (Jessica), Patrick & Kelli Parks, Melissa & Caroline Ponder, great-grand-daughters Laney, Taylor & Annie Kate Parks. A native of West End, he was an Army Veteran and retired from U.S. Steel. Arthur coached baseball at Lowery Park in the 1950's & 1960's. Beloved by his grandchildren & great-grandchildren, 'Papa' enjoyed their many sports, music & dance events. Visitation at Johns-Ridouts Elmwood Chapel, Monday, March 4, 12:30 -2:00pm graveside service at 2:00pm. Rev. Reid Crotty, of Bluff Park United Methodist Church officiating. Memorials may be made in his name to American Macular Degeneration Foundation PO Box 515 Northampton MA 01061-0515.
