Smith, Arthur M. Born in Ackworth, Iowa, on Nov. 29, 1924, Arthur M. Smith died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 81, the son of the late Edith and Curtis Smith. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Smith. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II in the Pacific Theatre and then went on to Japan. After returning from the war, he graduated from Simpson College in Iowa. He furthered his education at Yale, with a master's degree in forestry. He was a lobbyist in Arkansas and Louisiana legislatures for many years. He was a member of the Church of the Way Presbyterian Church. He taught Sunday school in Arkansas and Baton Rouge with classes all the way from crib babies to his platinum-hair ladies. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral from 11 a.m. Thursday until religious service in the at 1 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Ted Roeling. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Alison Rudd and husband John of Moss Bluff; sons, Jeff Smith of Clanton, Ala., and Peter Smith of London; stepsons, whom he considered his own, Adrian Brunson, Bill Brunson and wife Cathy, Drew Brunson and wife Barbara, and Dean Brunson and wife Judy; grandchildren, Justin Rudd and Ashley Rudd, both of Moss Bluff, Alison Crowley and husband Chet of Lexington, Ky., Scott Smith and wife Amy of Chattanooga, Tenn., Jessica and Jennifer Brunson, Sandy Holden and husband Micah, Latham Brunson, and Reed and Daniel Brunson, all of Baton Rouge, and Shannon McGrew; three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Cyril and wife Peggy of Live Oak, Fla. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Justin Rudd, Latham Brunson, Reed and Daniel Brunson and Micah Holden.
