Ashley Hansen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 29, 2007.
Ashley Dawn Hansen
Ashley Dawn Hansen was swept from us way too soon as she was called to her heavenly home on November 25, 2007. She was born on May 8, 1985 in Provo, Utah to Jon & Shellie Hansen. At the age of four she moved with her parents to Mountlake Terrace, Washington. There, her family expanded with the births of her twin sisters, Aubrey and Amber and her brother Alex. She graduated from Maplewood PCEP and Mountlake Terrace High School where she sang with the Accent Choir and was the producer for the high school television station HBN. She is a senior at Brigham Young University where she was studying secondary education with plans to become a middle school teacher. She loved teaching and helping children. She found great joy in teaching at Renaissance Academy in Lehi. Ashley was a great leader and had a wonderful talent in working with and encouraging others to be better. She was a marvelous example of kindness to her family and friends and had a tender and sincere heart. She was, more than anything, the greatest example of a true friend to all who knew her. Her beautiful smile would light the room as she spread the warmth of sunshine and true happiness and joy to all she came in contact with. She loved and knew her Savior Jesus Christ and was Christ-like in all she did. She loved to share her testimony with others and always found ways to share the light of the gospel with others through her example, her words and her actions. Family, friends and church were her priorities above all else. She loved her family and friends. She loved her students and rejoiced in the opportunity to be with them every day, whether at school or their many extra curricular activities. She went to their games, plays, dance and music recitals or whatever activity she could because she loved to see them and encouraged them to succeed and do their best. She lived the last three years, while attending BYU in the home of her second family Uncle Shawn and Aunt Rischelle Mikkelson and her nieces, Victoria, Annika and Hadley. She loved being in their home. She had the amazing support of her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, wonderful extended family and many, many friends and coworkers that love and miss her. We will all cherish the twenty-two short years we had with her on this earth and look forward longingly for the day we get to see and embrace her again, for we know that families are forever.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 30, 2007 at the Traverse Mountain Stake Center, 2030 W. Chapel Ridge Road, Lehi, Utah at 1:00 pm. Family and friends may call from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the services. Interment will follow at the Orem City Cemetery. A memorial will also be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 22015 48th Ave W., Mountlake Terrace, Washington on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Ashley Hansen Memorial Fund at any Utah Community Credit Union. Funeral Directors Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, Orem, Utah.

When Ashley and I both worked at Renaissance Academy, I met Ashley out at recess. She was good to talk to-- a kind, friendly, caring person. I just wanted to express my condolences to the family.

I was hired extremely last minute to fill the position of Arabic teacher. I had very little idea what was in store for me this year. Ashley and I were the only employees, to my knowledge, who were still students at BYU. She could relate to my plights of, "should I write fake lesson plans for my class, or real lesson plans for my job?" I did not have the chance to know her for very long, but in that short time she managed to deeply mark my life by something she said to me. It was two weeks into the semester, and she asked me how I liked teaching Middle School. I said, "It's great! I really LOVE teaching this age group!" She looked at me and said, "Oh I'm so glad! I worry about them. These students - they need to be loved. So many Middle School teachers don't love their students - when that is the age that they really need it most. I hope you continue to love them." I have thought about this over and over. In a way, this statement has shaped my attitude on teaching. Ashley truly touched all those who met her, even briefly, and changed their lives for good. I would like to live up to her expectations of me.

While I worked at Mountlake Terrace High School, I had the pleasure of associating with Ashley through the music department. She always had a smile and warm greeting for me when entering my office. She was so warm and friendly and made sure I knew I could call on her for help when needed. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time and in the days ahead. (the "finelady")

I worked with Ashley as an aid at Renaissance. During that time, I saw how she was always the one volunteering for different needs or going the extra mile in the things she was working on. The window in the work room where we sit was always being knocked on by students excited to wave or say hello to Ashley. It was evident what a good example and influence she was to all those students. She was the kind of person that made you want to be a better person.

Dear Shelly,
I just learned about your extrodinary loss. My heart cries for you and your family. It is a terrible thing to loose such a young person as my family is so aware. Know that our Lord is an amazing gracious Lord and has the strength to carry you through the times you can not carry yourself. There is a song by Diamond Rio titled "God on Cries" that has been my myspace song most of this year - basically it says that God cries for those of us left behind because we are the ones who haven't come home yet. Know that the glorious day of reunion with your sweet baby is a promise our lord will keep.

If you ever need to talk or just hang out please feel free to call me.

Again, you and your family will be in my prayers.
May the Lord bring you Peace,
Michelle Melillo

To Ashley's family,
Oh what a wonderful, sweet person you have raised. I had the privilege of working with Ashley at Renaissance and my son, Conner, was a student of hers. Words cannot explain the loss she is to the students that she inspired. She was loved by them all. Her beautiful smile and wonderful personality will surely be missed, and will always be remembered. Heavenly Father is rejoicing having his sweet spirit Ashley back in heaven. Our family will pray for comfort and peace to be in your heart. Love,
Lisa, Jeff, Conner and Garrett Thomas

You are dear friends to us and although we don't see you much we treasure the memories of TREK and our ongoing friendship.
May Heavenly Father bless each of you with strength, courage and peace at this time.
