As I write the 34th entry in a long line of thoughtful remarks, I pause in awe of Grandma and the impact she's had (and continues to have) on such a great family. Because that's what she was all about...FAMILY. Whether it was gatherings during the holidays, hand-made ornaments, custom plates on her wall, or the simple gesture of keeping the M&M jar full when grandkids came to visit; Grandma has passed down great traditions and has instilled a strong set of values with all of us.
I am #8. While most people don't like to be referred as a number, it brings me pride and I wear it like a badge. Growing up, being so close with the extended family seemed so normal; but now I realize how rare it is. Thank you Grandma. So many memories and great family experiences would not have been possible without you. I can only hope to be as instrumental in the lives of my children and the generations that follow.
We all love you and miss you!!

So many great memories of Nana Schumacher. All the food, drinks, and fun during the holidays. The hand-made Christmas ornaments. Trips to northern Wisconsin. The games we would play, like Bluff. Nana was, and is, the bedrock on which we are built, keeping us all together. Faith and family are the most cherished gifts she has passed on to us.

Five handed Sheepshead - Nana always knew what I had in my hand and I can still hear her telling me to get those queens out early. I'm not sure I was her favorite partner, but I always made it interesting for her. I'll miss playing cards with her.

Tonight when Molly and I were saying her prayers I asked her who she wanted to say a special prayer for and she said, " For all the people in heaven, Nana and Aunt Judy."

My son, Mason, loves the brown cottages and enjoys being the favorite great grandchild because he is named after Nana's maiden name.

After Grandma's funeral my daughter, Jordan, said, "Mom, I feel sad for you because I know how sad I would be to lose one of my Grandmas." Grandmas really are something special.

As I read all the wonderful messages that were written in the guest book for my mother, I noticed many had mentioned the love for her family. That is what I admired the most about my mom. She worked hard to keep the family together by having picnics, parties, planning "Up North" vacations, arranging holiday celebrations, and encouraging everyone to support each other. She showed her love and support for each and everyone of us in cards, homemade gifts, Christmas ornaments, and her wonderful gift of prayer. Over the past few years as my mother's health began to deteriorate, my siblings and I took on the enormous task of planning all the family activities. We soon learned how much works goes into keeping a family together. Thank you mom for always being there for us and giving us a strong LOVE FOR FAMILY!! God has you in His keeping but we have you in our HEARTS!! Love Always, Jill

I recently explained to Aden that his Great Grandma is now in Heaven. He looked up at me and said, "I'm gonna miss her, Daddy, but don't feel bad...now she can keep Grandma company." What a profound thing for a four year-old to say.

Thank you, Grandma, for the gift of "Up North." You have passed on an amazing tradition, that so many look forward to each year. I will miss you dearly. Give my Mom and Grandpa Schumacher a hug and a kiss. Oh, and one more thing; I'm very sorry for peeing on your lap Up North when I was a baby. I promise to find the old "Super 8" footage and destroy it... or maybe I'll put it on YouTube. ;)

Grandma Schumacher you are going to be greatly missed, but you have left us all with so many wonderful memories and you have made each of us feel so special by instilling upon us your love for family. I have always been so proud of our big family and the traditions we have kept. Every year we couldn't wait to go Up North and see what you made us. The games, candy, cocktail hour and the just hanging out and talking are the times I will treasure the most. You are a special, special lady and will be with me always.

Love-

My Grandmother was an amazing woman. She taught me countless things- but the one that stands out the most was her love of family. She taught me the importance of it and that it is a 'forever' gift that we need to cherish and nurture. Our family is a tight knit unit- and I credit the yearly week up north spent together. People have always commented on what a wonderful tradition that is. I am so honored to carry that tradition on with my own children. I watch their excitement as the week nears- and I relish in the fact that I still feel the same as they do now. I was blessed to have her in my life for as long as I did. She is now our Guardian Angel along with Grandpa and my Mother. I Love you Grandma- and I will miss you so!

Mom was women's lib before they even knew about it. The best thing that happened to me was to marry into Audrey's family. She loved me and mentored me as if I was one of her own. I respected her so much, she was very strong and outspoken - but oh! so warm of heart. If she said it - she meant it. What a gal - she'll always be in my heart. I'll so miss her.

When Dawn and I heard of Nana's passing we were in Moab, Utah on our way to California to see Todd and Dean's families. We had seen Nana on April 22nd and as always she had asked when we were going to leave for our trip. We both wanted to be back for her funeral, but in our hearts knew that she would have wanted us to continue our journey.

Nana was like a second mother to me and I will always cherish what she taught me about life and family.

On behalf of my 2 1/2 year old Cooper, one of Grandma's many Great Grandchildren, I have to tell this story. Cooper and his brother Ryder(1 year) came with us to celebrate Nana's life on May 3rd and we explained to him that he now has an Angel Nana watching over him, he was pretty excited about that. He didn't talk about it much more, however, 2 days after our celebration Cooper was at school playing on the playground and ran up to his teacher, sat down and said "Marci, do you know that I have an angel Nana?" She smiled as he immediately got up to start playing again...Grandma/Nana you definately have left a mark on all of us!

We love you!

Two things jump to my mind when I think about Grandma Schumacher: her feisty personality and her honesty. She is a woman I will always look up too, I will miss her greatly. Thank you for showing us how important family truly is, we love you!
My favorite stories and memory of Grandma was when my family left me with her for a week while they went to Disney World, I was the one who had more fun and didn't want to leave my Grandma!! I will also cherish all the photos you took, I just love paging through your endless photo albums. I promise to keep that tradition alive with my family! I love you Grandma.

Grandma Schumacher was a wonderful, thoughtful and beautiful person who was a part of every important event in my life...including birthdays, holidays, my first communion, school events, my confirmation, 3 graduations, my wedding, and the list goes on and on. She was always there for me when I needed her mentorship, and prayed for me often. She also instilled in me the importance of family, and a love for northern Wisconsin ("upnorth"). We'll cherish her grandma-made upnorth items (such as hand-sewn towels, swimsuits and cousin shirts) and Christmas ornaments always. Even though she is now in heaven, she'll be in our hearts forever!

There are so many great memories I have of grandma. I recall walking with her to the park behind her old condo. I remember her bringing her homemade game of Bluff up to Eagle River every summer for our week-long family vacation. I remember her and I bonding over politics, old fashioned's and cribbage. The list of memories goes on and on.

But what sticks with me the most is how much fun I had around grandma. She always had a story to tell, always had a witty comment to make, and always had an open ear to listen when I needed to vent. She instilled so many great qualities in her family, and it shows. I'll always be grateful for this.

And so, as I say goodbye to grandma, it doesn't really feel like goodbye. With so many great memories and such a great family, grandma's legacy will live on for generations. There's truly nothing better you can leave behind.

Thanks for the great memories--love you grandma!

Grandma had a way of making each one of us feel special! She never forgot a birthday and always said a rosary for whoever needed it at the time. I remember a birthday card she sent me that had Heather #9 on the envelope...I was sad because I turned 10 years old that year and I didn't think she remembered. However, after discussing this with my mom she reminded me that I am the 9th grandchild and that is how Grandma always referred to us. I then felt much better. Her family commitment was never less than 100%. I love the UP NORTH tradition she started and so do my kids! I will always remember the "middle child" bond we had and I will miss her dearly!

Heather #9

My sincerest sympathy to you and all your families. I am sorry I could not attend the service for your mother but she has always been in my thoughts as have all of you.
I think of all the gifts she gave you through the years; strength, loyalty to family, love and perhaps most of all a genuine zest for life and living.
There is so much I hope Kris has inherited from your family---not the least is a long fulfilling life.
I hope you will stay in touch with us.
I dearly loved your mother and never forgot her many kind acts to me.
Love Always,
Aunt Jeanine

My mom always looked forward, stuck to her principles, and put family first. I was so proud of her on how she handled being in a nursing home these last 2 years. Even with her physical limitations she still had a zest for life. She found enough enjoyment getting to know the staff and our daily visits to keep her going. Her inner strength and faith in God was key to her long wonderful life.
I am going to terribly miss her. She was my biggest cheerleader. She loved me unconditionally. Thank you mom.

We're all so sorry to hear of the death of Aunt Audrey. We have so many delightful memories of her organizing games, parties, get togethers. And I remember how she helped our family when my mother underwent numerous surgeries when Lynn and I were children. What a dynamic person she was. It's been wonderful how all of you have continued to surround her with love and support on a daily basis. And we're glad to hear she benefitted from hospice support these last weeks, too. I noted the death notice in today's paper and called Lynn. Lynn then forwarded the email she had just received. I see my email address was my former employer. My email for anyone who might need it is: [email protected]

Will see you at the visitation. Please don't hesitate to call on us if we can be of assistance to the family 262-253-0438.
With deepest sympathy,
Gail and Don

Aunt Audrey is now at peace and in heaven with my Uncle Ed and Cousin Judy.
I will always remember her as a very emotionally strong person who was always able to handle adversity with dignity and courage. My deepest sympathies to my cousins; Jim, Joy and Jill for the loss of their mother, as well as all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was the essence of her life. She will be missed but remembered in my thoughts and prayers.
