Austin Brooks Ekern (1997 – 2017)
Austin Brooks Ekern, age 20 of Oviedo, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017. He was born on February 5, 1997 in Orlando, Florida. Austin is survived by his mother, Sharon Ekern; his father, Brent Ekern; his brothers, William Wieser and Cannon Ekern; and his grandmothers, Eldoris Ekern of Wisconsin and Betty Teague of South Carolina.
Austin was a 2015 graduate of Hagerty High School and attended Florida State University. He was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Austin Ekern Memorial Scholarship fund at Florida State University.

I knew you from Jackson Heights Middle School Home of the Bobcats in August 2010-May 2011 in gym class which was 7th period and we had P.E. class but not in Hagerty High School Home of the Huskies in August 2011-May 2015. And as always GO BOBCATS and GO HUSKIES.

We as a family are very sorry for your loss. Our son Andrew is and will always continue to be a brother to your son Austin at FSU Pi Kappa Alpha. He has expressed many times how he truly enjoyed spending time with Austin. Always full of life and energy. We are sorry about our late condolences but know that he continues to be in everyone's thoughts.

There is nothing I can say to comfort you but I want you to know Austin's passing was mourned even in the Bronx, New York. I am the aunt of Kristen R. and have seen them both blossom into these gorgeous young adults. I was at Cannon's graduation for my younger niece also. Kristen was so happy to see Austin that day.
I cried so much when I found out what happened and so did priests, and women who prayed the rosary with me in your family's name that awful morning. We just prayed and cried. He is mourned everywhere. I heard the song for the first time 'Praise you in this storm' in a cab that morn the day it all happened. It acknowledges how unfair this is. He will never be forgotten and I ask him to watch over all his friends who loved him.
