Austin E. Hesse, 22, of Flagstaff, Ariz., formerly of Calamus, Iowa, died Thursday, August 24, 2006, in Phoenix, Ariz. The family will greet friends at SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, from 3 until 7 p.m. Friday, September 8, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy is 9 a.m. Saturday, September 9, at the Church, with the Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment is in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Wulf, Kevin Regan, Tom Regan, Adam Gravert, Gerald Waters, and Larry Hesse.
Austin Ellis Hesse was born April 12, 1984, in Davenport, to William and Jill (Steines) Hesse. He attended school in DeWitt. Austin worked for North American Van Lines in Arizona. He was an accomplished artist and loved snow skiing and fishing with his mom and dad. Austin was a good cook and willing worker, helping his father build his Arizona home.
Surviving are his mother, Jill Sell, Parkview, Iowa, and his father, Bill Hesse, Flagstaff; a half brother, Daniel Sell, Parkview; grandparents, Natalie Regan, Calamus, and Gaylard and Nancy Rolston, Clinton; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his grandfathers, Marion Hesse, John C. Regan and Leroy Steines.
