Austin R. Pohl

Westphalia - Austin Robert Pohl, 35, of Westphalia, Michigan, went to be with our Lord on March 18, 2021. Austin, surrounded by his family, passed away from complications due to Covid-19.

Austin was an amazing force in this world who embodied the idea that although life's circumstances can at time bring us to our knees, what matters is that we keep looking up and moving forward. Austin gave us all a wonderful example as one who persevered through challenges with a smile on his face. He was an amazing teacher, son, brother and friend.

Austin enjoyed riding in the van throughout the countryside, listening to music, watching videos when at home and he had a real love for food.

Austin touched the lives of many individuals who entered our home to help Austin in his daily living and many of these individuals touched our lives, as well. We will be eternally grateful for the help of such caring, loving individuals.

Austin was preceded in death by his brother, Garrett, Grandparents, Mark and Gertrude (Witgen) Simmon, Grandmother Mary Ellen (Platte) Pohl, Aunt Patty (Simmon) Robbins and Aunt Sheila Pohl. He is survived by his parents, Luke and Janet (Simmon) Pohl, brother, Gavin and his wife Meghan, brother, Landon and his wife Nicole and nieces, Azlynn and Quinn, Grandfather, Elvan Pohl and many aunts, uncles and cousins on both the Pohl and Simmon sides of the family.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 29, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.

Janet and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Earlier this week I was thinking it was about time for me to see my favorite guy, then I hear today I heard he passed away and it broke my heart! I’ve been thinking about him and your family ever sense. I ALWAYS looked forward to seeing Austin with you (his dad, or whoever else would accompany you) at lab. Austin was a very special soul! And even though he never really spoke to me, I know he enjoyed that I enjoyed being in his company! I will always remember him as my favorite patient, the sweetest man with the handmade play-doh hands. He most definitely will be missed! Thoughts and prayers to you and yours!!

As your colleagues in the Autism community and early roommates in Austin's House, we are crushed to hear of his passing. It is promised that we will see them again. We must believe in that promise. God bless.

Luke and Janet, so very sorry for your loss! Please allow me to say as a grandfather of 2 precious autistic boys whom I long to fully understand as I'm sure they long to be understood, I can see your sweet Austin rejoicing in the presence of God where he "knows and understands just as he is perfectly understood" (1st corinthians 13:12) . Austin has finished the race! I am eager for the day that he is standing at the gates of heaven to welcome you both into the kingdom! I love you both as I both weep and rejoice with you! You are in my prayers.
