Balde Ibanez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran, and dedicated professional, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, at the age of 78 in
Buda, Texas. He was born to Bernarda and Jose Ibanez on August 23, 1946, in Edinburg, Texas. He was a man of strength, kindness, and integrity.
He served with honor in the United States Navy, where his commitment to duty and service shaped the core of his character. After his military service, Balde devoted forty-three years to the Department of Health and Human Services Commission. His last position was Director of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) Department. He worked tirelessly in his many management positions to support and guide others in their professional journeys. His leadership, compassion, and unwavering work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends.
In addition to his remarkable, professional career, Balde was an avid runner having completed multiple marathons, 10ks and 5ks. He found peace and fulfillment in the rhythm of his steps -- whether he was preparing for a race or enjoying a leisurely jog. Running kept him grounded and energized throughout his life. It was more than a sport to him; it was a passion he passed down to his children and extended family, creating treasured and heartfelt memories with every race and every practice run.
Beyond running, Balde found joy in music, singing, dancing, and cheering passionately for his favorite sports teams - the Texas Longhorns and the Atlanta Braves. His love for sports brought excitement and energy to every gameday, often shared with family and friends, even in the final weeks of his life.
Whether hosting a backyard barbecue or a family dinner, Balde turned every gathering into a celebration of food, laughter, and connection as Balde had a deep passion for cooking and grilling. Over the years, his culinary skills even earned him several wins in cook-off competitions. Yet, for him, the greatest reward wasn't the trophies - it was sharing meals with the people he loved.
Balde also had a sharp sense of humor and a natural gift for comedy. He could light up any room with his quick wit and laughter, often leaving friends and family in stitches with his jokes and playful storytelling. His humor was more than entertainment -- it was a reflection of his joy for life and his ability to lift the spirits of those around him.
A natural storyteller, Balde captivated listeners with his tales, weaving humor, wisdom, and heart into every narrative. He was also a passionate history buff, always eager to share stories of the past and draw lessons from them. His deep knowledge and love for history made conversations with him both enlightening and unforgettable.
Balde was, above all else, a family man. He married his sweetheart and true love, Ivette, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond. Together, they traveled the world - exploring new places, creating cherished memories, and sharing countless adventures. Their partnership was one of mutual respect, love, and laughter - a beautiful testament to the strength of their bond.
As a father and grandfather, he was a constant source of support, guidance, and love. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, always putting family first and ensuring they knew how deeply they were loved. His greatest joy was watching them grow, celebrating their successes, and standing by their side through every challenge. Balde's devotion to his family was unwavering - a true example of what it means to lead with love, patience, and kindness. His laughter, stories, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, a lasting reminder of a life fully and beautifully lived.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Ibanez. He is survived by his loving wife, Ivette Rivera-Ortiz; his children, Iris Martinez (Daniel), Laura Martinez (Ryo), and Raphael Ibanez (Courtney); step-children, Ronnie Rocha (Nicki), Michael Rocha, Michael Pacheco, and Bryan Pacheco; Grandchildren, Sara, Emily and Ivy; brother, Roger Ibanez (Shelly); twin sister Imelda Vasquez (Hector); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Then, there was Wyatt, his devoted four-legged son. Through thick and thin, Wyatt was Balde's shadow, offering unconditional love, a wet nose nudge, and a comforting presence, especially in the quieter moments of his later years. He was more than just a dog; he was family, a furry confidant who held a special place in Balde's heart.
