Barbara Binger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 2, 2025.
Barbara Jean (Maynard) Binger of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at the age of 91.

She was born April 7, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of the late Arthur Samuel and Erma Marie (McDonald) Maynard. On November 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to George Montgomery Binger, Jr. who preceded her in death on February 18, 2010.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three children, Thomas M. Binger and his wife, Pam, of St. Louis, Missouri; Julie C. Miller and her husband, Scott, of Grand Island, Nebraska; and George M. Binger III and his wife, Sandra, of Lee's Summit, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Emily C. Stahr (Justin), Darin E. Binger (Courtney), Ryne S. Miller (Tracey), Christian H. Binger (Kinsey), Victoria G. Binger, Virginia P. Burge (Dalton) and Kathryn B. Petit-Frere (Matthew); and six great-grandchildren. Barbara's brother and sister also preceded her in death.

Barbara graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1951. She received her BS in Speech from the University of Central Missouri and pursued a career in speech therapy. She also wrote as a newspaper columnist and ran a business as an antique dealer to support her greatest love- her family. She worked as a full-time mom for many years, pouring her heart and soul into her children, the children she gave the gift of speech, her volunteer work, and her husband who was the love of her life. She always carried a card with her that said "Follow your joy. Take a vow of kindness. Have your job be a purpose, and treat others like you like to be treated, including your speech."

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions can be made online to America's National Churchill Museum, where Barbara volunteered as a docent, at https://www.nationalchurchillmuseum.org/donate.html .

Celebration of her life will be held on July 5, 2025. The event will be open-house format from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Thrive Church in Lee's Summit, MO. The address is 401 NE Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64063 (https://www.thrive-church.cc/).
