DR. BARBARA BOUNDS
Dr. Barbara Bounds Blackstone was called home for eternity on Thursday, October 31, 2013, after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. She had celebrated her 84th birthday with a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, October 27, 2013. Barbara was born to the late Clyde and Helen Bounds in Windber, Pa., in 1929. She received degrees from Allegheny College, the University of Iowa and the University of Pittsburgh. She was a certified speech pathologist and taught Communications at Slippery Rock University for 34 years until age 75. She was a resident of Cranberry Township since 1958 and was a long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wexford. She traveled to over 45 different countries on six continents in her passion for learning more about people throughout the world, caring about justice for all, and sharing that understanding with others. Barbara leaves a lasting legacy of hospitality, generosity, lifelong learning, and risk-taking faith to her four children, Carlen, Franklin III (Alison), Martha (Bob Boyle), and Rodney, and her three grandchildren, Kent, Mitch and Mei-Ling. She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne (John D.) Kinard of Glenside, PA, and many others in her extended family. Barbara's family will welcome visitors from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the GLENN - KILDOO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 130 Wisconsin Avenue, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066. You may also greet the family at the church on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 12:30 pm until the time of her Celebration of Life Worship Service at 1:30 pm at Salem United Methodist Church, 350 Manor Road, Wexford, Pa 15090 with Rev. Beth Nelson, officiating. A meal will be served afterwards at the church, and all are welcome, as she would want it. A more private interment will take place later in the month at Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in her memory to Salem United Methodist Church, Africa University, Jumonville, or your charity of choice for the greater good. Dear Barbara's family, I knew your mother for over 20 years as a colleague and friend. She was always an inspiration for her good humor and warm heart. While I was teaching in Korea, she was in Japan and decided to visit me. Just in time for an extended field trip through the mountains of northern South Korea, your beautiful wonderful mother tackled this adventure with wit and a reminder for us all to still have some dessert with our meals. My Korean friends fell in love with her. We will forever miss you Barbara.

Dear Blackstone Family,
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I always think of your mother whenever I am swimming at Jumonville. She was there for swim camp, when I was in 8th grade. I am not a swimmer by any means, but she worked with me on my kick. I guess being a musician I did things in four, and she wanted me to kick more times per arm stroke. After many years, I think I am finally getting it. I will also remember her for her gift of CAT Camp. It has been a source of renewal and comfort every year as I have made many dear friends through CAT Camp. I haven't missed a year yet!. Unfortunately I am not a big fan of oatmeal because of the time your mother held it over her head and it stayed in the bowl. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Rod, Carlen, Frank and Martha:
Sincere sympathy to you in the loss of your Mom. I remember from times at your home in high school that she was an intelligent, warm, loving person who always handled herself with grace and was very proud of her children. May the values she instilled in you continue to serve you well and keep her alive in your hearts.
