Barbara Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 7 to Apr. 9, 2023.
Born to Louie and Carmi Hicks on November 26, 1940 in Columbus, Georgia where she lived the majority of her Youth. Since 1976, Las Vegas , Nevada has been her home but she was often homesick for her family in Georgia. It was her children and Grandchildren, residing here that kept her in Las Vegas. The stories about living and working in a place like Las Vegas are too numerous to tell, i.e. being mistaken for being a Showgirl, hanging out with Tom Jones or hiding out from mafia types You naively thought were debt collectors! Her long life was tumultuous at worse and adventurous at best but NEVER boring! She wrang out every minute this life for all it was worth and then some. She was athletic and a performer who loved music and dancing with a hope to be a Singer but Marriage and Motherhood became her priority at the young age of 16. She did share the performing skills with her children whom she coached for talent shows and, without a doubt, through whom She lived vicariously! She was also athletic and physically strong the entirety of her long life until recently. As anyone knows who has been there, just because you become physically weakened in your former years doesn't mean your mind agrees to cooperate with that reality! I can honestly say She "went down swingin'! And there are a few ex-husbands, still living, who can vouch for that!

Preceding Barbara in her death were her Parents; 3 Brothers, Charles, James H. "Sonny" and Michael R."Mike" Hicks; and 2 Granddaughters, Jessica Cherry and Shaynnie Cherry. Surviving Siblings: Sister, Gail(Earl) Childs of Columbus, Ga. Because her little sister, Gail and Her were nearly 12 years apart She called her "My Baby" and loved her like her her own baby doll; Brother, Rudy Hicks of Albany, GA.; 3 daughters; Kim(Dan) Martinez and Becky Cherry of Las Vegas, NV. and Beth McWaters of Columbus, Georgia. 3 Sons; William Terry Bradshaw of Las Vegas, NV, who has been her constant Companion and Caretaker for more than 10 years, Danny (Valerie) Cherry of New Jersey and Thomas Wayne (Sue) Cherry of Florida. Grandchildren; Alicia Snipes-Taylor , Matthew Martinez and Great-Grandchild, Marlo Taylor; Jerami Cherry and Great-Grandson, Miles Cherry, all of Las Vegas, NV. Melissa(Sean) Poteet , Michael Danford, Tasha Cherry and Daniel Cherry, all of Florida. Nicholas Cherry of New Jersey.

While we greatly mourn the loss of Her incomparable presence, Her sweet Southern voice, Her comforting, loving hugs and the laughter along with the tears we shared as we wandered thru our Memories, we also greatly rejoice that She is in the PRESENCE of the One and Only Lord Jesus Christ to whom She remained devoted and grateful for His constant presence and continual rescue during Her 82-year-jampacked-journey on this created earth and Who ultimately determined Her final breath on it! She went to sleep and peacefully woke up in Eternal Glory!

Possible Private Memorial to be held at a later date.

Condolences may be left here and much appreciated!

I still think of you so often...I can always remember my mother call you SIS...I don't think it was a nickname...so to speak..but just short and affectionately meaning SISTER. You both were pretty close.

I loved her very much and she was always in my mind and thoughts. She was my mother's best friend. My mother always referred to her as "Sis"......I have a lot of fond memories of her during my childhood. She was a beautiful person inside and out... And a beautiful laugh and smile. I will miss you..but I will see you on the other side...love always and prayers for all the family
