Barbara Griffiths Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 26, 2024.
Barbara Milliman Griffiths, nee Benesch, passed away peacefully at Gilchrist Center Towson on June 20, 2024.

Barbara was born March 12, 1938 in Baltimore, MD to Herbert and Bessie Benesch. After her mother's passing, she moved to California with her father at the age of 10, where she spent her formative years in the Santa Barbara area. She attended the University of California, Berkeley. Barbara developed her talents as an artist and stone sculptor and fueled her passion for driving at the wheel of a MGA twin cam coupe.

In 1957, Barbara and her MGA caught the eye of Geoffrey Griffiths, a young, dashing Englishman and a representative for Lucas Industries, when they were both visiting the same sports car repair shop. The couple were married in Bel Air California in 1962 and became active in the North American racing scene, mixing business with pleasure as Geoffrey serviced his sports car manufacturer clients. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed art, sculpting, animals, nature, travel, friends and family.

Geoffrey and Barbara relocated to Maryland in 1970, and founded Treasured Motorcar Services in 1980, performing automotive restoration, racing preparation and British car repairs from their home garage in Northern Baltimore County before moving the business to a permanent location in Reisterstown, MD. Barbara ran the family business alongside her husband for over 30 years. Barbara semi-retired after Geoffrey's passing but remained actively engaged in the business.

Barbara is survived by her son Trevor Griffiths, daughter Allison Griffiths, grandchildren Tyler Griffiths and Max Griffiths, the UK family, and her beloved furry companion BenBen.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 9am to 12pm at Treasured Motorcar Services, 917 E. Tolna Rd. New Freedom, PA.

All are invited to attend and encouraged to share their stories of our dear mother, colleague and friend. To honor Barbara's lifelong love for our four-legged companions and her enjoyment of pristine natural environments, her family asks that in lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter, or alternatively have a tree planted in her name. Barbara has elected to donate her remains for scientific research through Anatomy Gifts Registry. As such, there will not be a traditional burial service.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I never got or took the chance to write something like this after Geoffrey passed, so I would like to write this for both of them.

When I moved into the Hunt Valley area, Barbara and Geoffrey Griffiths were the first people to have faith in me and give me an opportunity to do a pretty large scale landscaping project at their home.

And yes, they took a 2 year home, raised their family, had a horse and an awesome little barn that still stands, and kept it another 50+ years!

I cannot tell you how much I thought of both of them; they were wonderful, sweet, kind, truly just darling people.

What a dream life to do so many different types of work on some of the coolest cars ever made! And to race cars!

It saddens my heart that they are both gone from this earth. I was heartened to hear that Barbara passed peacefully, as did my mother a couple years before. Our family was at peace. I very much hope that both the Griffith and Milliman families now feel at peace
