Barbara LaMonica Bennett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2024.
Our beloved Barbara LaMonica Bennett born October 31, 1942, in Stamford Connecticut, passed unexpectedly but peacefully on June 6, 2024, at 81 years old.

Barbara was born to Patrick and Mary LaMonica, and she was raised in the city of Stamford, Connecticut. She grew up with her four sisters in a traditional Italian family. Barbara eventually graduated school and went on to become a hairdresser by trade. She would work many other jobs over the years but the job she prided herself on the most was being a mother and a Nana.

Barbara was the mother of four sons John, Donnie (deceased) Shannon (deceased), and Darren, as well as two bonus sons Joseph and David. After living most of her life in Stamford Connecticut, she would fulfill her dream of purchasing a home in Deerfield Beach, Florida, where she raised her two youngest Shannon and Darren. She was known for being at sports games, supporting her sons, yelling, and cheering them on along with the other athletes. She forged many great relationships on the athletic field. She was also known for opening up her home to many of the young athletes for meals or simply just to hang out. She loved cooking lasagna and other staple Italian dishes. One of her favorite hobbies was dancing and going to doo-wop shows enjoying classic songs from her era the 50's, 60's & 70's.

She spent many years traveling back and forth from Florida to Connecticut to spend time with family and old friends up there. If there was any one motivation that drew her back to Connecticut multiple times a year, it was her three grandchildren, Jackie, Jessie, and Johnny. Back in Florida, Barbara also spent a significant amount of time with her three other grandchildren, Darionna, Darriale, and Jael. Barbara was fortunate enough to be a great-grandmother to her great-granddaughter Khloe. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She lived for them and loved them deeply.

One thing among many, we all can remember Barbara by is her fiery personality. She could light up any room she walks into with joy, but she could also light up a room, defending her children or grandchildren! She was extremely loving yet no-nonsense when it came to certain things. She was also stubborn yet understanding. One of her favorite things to do as she lived out her ladder years was to attend church services at Calvary Chapel North Miami, a church started by her son Darren. She loved Jesus deeply, she loved everyone in that church congregation, and of course, everyone in that congregation loved and adored her. We are confident that she is resting in the peaceful arms of our Savior Jesus Christ!

Barbara is survived by her sons John (Kelliann), and Darren (Christine), her grandchildren Jackie, Jessie, Johnny, Darionna, Darriale, and Jael, her great-granddaughter Khloe, her bonus sons David (Tanya) and Joesph (Hiyas), her bonus grandchildren Destinee, Boyo, Jadyn, and Haley. Barbara is also survived by two sisters, a host of nephews and cousins as well as friends she considered her family. In addition to the wonderful people Barbara is survived by, she is also survived by her fur baby, Prince. Barbara was greeted into Heaven with open arms by her two predeceased sons, Donnie and Shannon.

There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, July 21st, 2024 at 1 pm located at Calvary Chapel North Miami. 3918 NW 167th Street Miami FL. There will also be a private celebration of life for family and close friends on August 17th, 2024 located in Monroe, Connecticut.

Whenever I saw or talked to Aunt Barbara I just felt love . As an adult, I was still her "Little Boop". She could always put a smile on my face and soul. And for the record, I was her favorite Nephew.....haha I'm going to miss her. Love you, Aunt Barbara.
