Condon Hartman

NEW SALEM - Condon Hartman, 71, New Salem, died June 19, 2007, at his home, following a valiant struggle with cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Peace Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Joshua Eddy officiating. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, New Salem, where prayer services will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue 9 a.m. to noon at the chapel and one our prior to services at the church Monday.

Condon was born Aug. 20, 1935, the son of Herman and Lena (Anderson) Hartmann. He lived his entire life on the family farm and graduated from New Salem High School, in 1954. He began farming with his father and eventually took over the family farming operation. On Dec. 2, 1982, he married Sharon McNeill and they were privileged to share nearly 25 years together.

Condon was involved in community service all of his life. A member of the Peace Church, he served on the council, building committees and was instrumental in making direct televised church services available to those living at Elm Crest Manor Nursing Home. He served on the Fire Department, the rural Fire District, Elm Crest Board of Directors, was secretary of New Salem Weigh Station, a member of Farmers Union Elevator Board of Directors, New Salem Historical Society and Museum and served as president of Morton County Historical Society. Condon and Sharon shared a passion for history and the preservation of historical artifacts and documents. They enjoyed visiting other museums and particularly the Threshing Show, Rollog, Minn.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two step-daughters, Julie McNeill and Jodie (Marty) Leier, all of Bismarck; his granddaughter, Sharelle Leier, who was his pride and joy; his sister, Lavonne (Lloyd) Borner, New Salem; and his nephew, John Borner, New Salem.

His parents and a nephew preceded him in death. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)
