Barbara Claire McCauley, 82, passed away on June 22, 2025, at the University of Miami hospital in Florida after a brief illness. She had a remarkable life.

She was born on September 25,1942 to John and Martha (McGloin) McCauley in Long Island City, NY.

Barbara attended Catholic elementary school in Brooklyn and Kings Park, NY. She then graduated from Mount Saint Mary high school in Burlington, VT.

She returned to New York and completed a degree in nursing at Creedmoor State Hospital. Barbara then trained as a nurse anesthetist at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore, MD, prior to relocating to Florida to continue her nursing career at Hialeah hospital.

In Florida, Barbara changed careers and pursued a degree in law. She worked for many years as a medical malpractice attorney.

Barbara married Wade Semerena in 1997. They made their home in Miami where she resided until her death. Barbara and Wade were very devoted to each other and their extended families.

Barbara was very active in her Miami community and involved in several organizations and clubs. She enjoyed cooking and loved to entertain. She was an avid reader and a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed travel and took many trips with family and friends in the U.S. and abroad. Barbara had several rescue cats and supported several cat rescue organizations.

She is survived by her husband Wade, brother John McCauley, niece Judy Flood, nephew Gregory Flood, and grandnieces and grandnephews. She also leaves many close friends in Florida and across the U.S. She will be greatly missed.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents and her sisters Dorothy McCauley, M.D. and Frances Flood (nee McCauley).

A memorial service will be held for Barbara for family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local library or pet rescue organization.
