Barbara McCoy

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Gammie and Sister. Barbara S. McCoy passed away on April 2, 2023 at the age of 81. Barbara was a devoted family woman and a woman of faith who touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Barbara was born on February 26, 1942 to John and Doris Carriker in South Carolina. She grew up in a close-knit family and was taught the value of love, compassion, and faith at an early age. Barbara went on to start a family with her former spouse Richard Zenner Sr. in 1961, with whom she had 3 children.

Barbara retired from the Department of Defense after a successful career of 32 years. She was the first women to obtain the Title of Professor within the Defense Acquisition University where she created and taught contract law courses for the Navy.

Barbara had a heart for her family and community. She was a kind and selfless person who always put others before herself. Her unwavering faith and love for God were the cornerstone of her life, and she instilled these values in her children.

Barbara was actively involved in her church and made prayer cloths for everyone in her spare time. She had a heart for helping others, and her kindness and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed Bible studies, crocheting, puzzling and spending time with her family. She had a contagious laugh and a warm smile that could light up a room. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Barbara is survived by her 3 children Rebekah Zenner, Elizabeth (M. Ipatzi) Zenner and Richard (Dee) Zenner Jr. Grandchildren, Sara (Aiden) Zenner, Justina (Ryan) O'toole, Barbara "Bobbi" (Charles) Zenner, Melissa Ipatzi. Bonus Grandchildren Angelo "Scooter" Defeo, Nina Mortenson, Terry Nunley and Cynie Palo. Great-grandchildren, Jackson, Teagan, Patrick, Alison, Carter, Savannah and Dorian. Brother John (Judy) Carriker and Sister Doris Taylor. She is preceded in death by parents John and Doris Carriker, brother-in-law Richard Taylor and former husband and best friend Richard Zenner Sr.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.

A celebration of life for Barbara's will be held at the Ventura Townehouse, 4900 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA on April 23, 2023 at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Two Trees Church, 117 N Ventura Ave., Ventura, CA 93001, twotreeschurch.org/give.
