It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Moore, 76, who departed this world on June 16, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. A private family burial will be held in Derby, Kansas.
Barbara Marie Moore was born on May 4, 1949, in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Her parents, Marvin James and Margaret Stella (Wilkins) Williams, raised Barbara and her older sister, Margaret, in Pawnee Township, Smith County, Kansas. Barbara attended Womer Rural School and Lebanon High School, where she played the tenor saxophone in the band. After graduating in 1967, Barbara moved to Washington, D.C., and took a position with the Environmental Protection Agency. On October 4, 1973, she gave birth to a daughter, Shannon Marie. Barbara and Shannon eventually made their way to Wichita, Kansas, and in May of 1979, Barbara began working at Boeing as a production and tooling expediter. It was at Boeing that she met Joe Moore. Barbara and Joe were married on April 11, 1981. During her tenure at Boeing, Barbara earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Development from Friends University in 1989, took a new position as a Finance Cost Management Analyst for the company, and made many lifelong friends like Sherry Jones, who traveled with her to China, Africa, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries. Barbara and Sherry also took several cycling trips across the US and abroad.
In 2000, Barbara and Joe left Boeing to start multiple businesses, including a concrete leveling business and a diner. In her spare time, Barbara served as an executive secretary at Victory in the Valley, Inc.; cared for her beloved pets, including a pot belly pig named Sweet Bee and a beagle named Roscoe; and volunteered regularly at her church, East Point Church of Christ.
In 2014, Barbara moved to Chicago to live near her nephew Bill's family and enjoy all that the Windy City had to offer. Barbara spent her retirement touring museums, attending lectures, plays and concerts, and traveling to family events in South Dakota and Nebraska. She also took many vacations with friends and family, including cruises to the Baltic capitals, the British Isles, Hawaii and Alaska, visiting over 30 countries in her lifetime.
Preceding Barbara in death were her parents, her husband, her daughter, and her sister.
Left to treasure her memory are Barbara's three nephews and their families: Bill and wife Julie Albin of Elmhurst, IL and daughters Katie Albin of Minneapolis, MN and Hollie Albin of Washington, DC; Herb and wife Stephanie Albin of Emery, SD and daughters Abby and husband Kyle Mathis of Mt Vernon, SD and Ashton Albin of Emery, SD; and Jeff and wife Chris Albin of Alma, NE, son Hayden and wife Michele Ekberg of Cambridge, NE and daughter Martena and husband Weston Rich of Cambridge, NE; other relatives and a host of friends. Barbara's personality was pervaded by her sharp wit, big heart, and her love of reading nonfiction biographies and listening to jazz and classic rock and roll. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
